Philbin Could be Too "Tight" Next Year

I was thinking with this whole thing, and Philbin wanting to set an example around the league, that next year he could be too "tight" with the players. What I'm getting it is that the atmosphere could go from one of a frat house, to one of a laboratory; with "no fun allowed."

If this did happen, we could have a hard time getting FA's to come here..or it could be the opposite and those interested in a "truly professional environment" might love to play for. Unfortunately, with these young men, it is probably the former.

Philbib needs to start smoking some weed! He's too tense. He's got a great mind and could be great but he really needs to loosen up a little. He's like one of those guys that when they tell a joke you do a double take.

Even players who aspire to be professional want to have fun. At the end of the day, football is still a game not an assembly line.

Philbin sucks the fun right out of any room. God help us.

He does seem to have that type of personality...or lack thereof...

Ya but so does Bellicheck, and guys love playin for him..

Fair enough ... but BB is a like cold hearted killer (figuratively of course). Players certainly respect and maybe fear him a little. I don't see that in JP. I see a technocrat at best.

I almost wish we were on "Hard Knocks" again this year, just to see the difference in how things are this year...

Well remember how he was on Hard Knocks - telling guys to tie their shoes and whatnot.

I think a huge misconception about this situation is how players like Philbin.

This is a work relationship. I spend 40+ hours a week at work, and even though I have a good working relationship with the people there, doesn't mean I have to be all buddy buddy with them like we're pals who go way back. Yeah, sometimes the guy who hired me may seem to micromanage a bit, but it makes it work.

I think a lot of fans, and even players, forget that it's a workplace there. There's certain things that we don't say or do at work just because it's not the place for it.

Philbin isn't their dad. He isn't their best friend. He's their coach, and as far as I'm concerned (and I'm sure he feels the same way), he's going to do the job to the best of his ability and either you're with it or you need to get your ass out. Maybe that's what Philbin lacks, or maybe he just doesn't show it in public and he's planning on sticking to his guns. But if that were me, after all of this, I'd go into that locker room and just say "Enough with the petty ****. We're here to win football games. Either you're all in, with us as a team, or you're not. And if you're not, you better get your ass out of this locker room."

Joe is dead meat next year.

Joe is a bad coach, but Joe is another person who's career was destroyed by a one Jon Martin.

This coming season has a Cam Cameron feel to it. (Or final year of Sparano)

LOL at the doom and gloom!

Aside from these O-line meatheads, all the other players I have seen or heard interviewing have talked about what a great locker room environment they have and how much they liked playing for the team. The biggest issues the team had organizationally in 2013 (offensive coordinator and GM) have been removed and new folks are in place.

You can bang on Philbin all you want, but he is the coach in 2014 and that isn't going to change. Additionally, if he doesn't win in 2014, he should be out.....not because Hayden says he is a bad coach....but because he has been given 3 years to implement his strategy and mold the team into his vision and it hasn't worked. 3 years is all you get...like a rookie class, it's fair and appropriate and enough time for any coach to implement their plan. Win and you get an extension, lose and your gone and nobody can say it wasn't done fairly.

All the rest of these distractions are just BS. Free Agents are still going to come here and we still get to draft our next rookie class.

Why couldn't McCoy beat him then?

Let's wager that Miami wins more than 1 game next year.
