Philbin says phins will run 3-4 & 4-3

If that's the case, don't be surprised if we welcome Courtney Upshaw to Miami in April. Someone with experience as a 3-4 OLB and 4-3 DE will be pretty valuable to our D.

I'm not a big fan of hybred defenses. It's probably the old school in me, but I say do something and do it well.

I have seen upshaw in a lot of mock drafts so far and I heard were scouting him pretty hard at the senior bowl, I would love upshaw, he could be a hybrid for us.

So does this mean Big Paul is a priority sign this offseason?

My guess would be "no" and I'd agree.

I just can't get past him being such a turd until his contract then franchise year.

I may be wrong and he's a nice player, but if we're not going to be dedicated to a 3-4 he needs to go ahead on.

I love this!! Do not limit yourself to a system! Design the system to fit the players. I have been preaching this for two years now. Pinch Me!

Most teams run some sort of mixture now. There are very few teams that always run a 4-3 and I am not sure there is any team that always runs a 3-4.

Compare this enthusiasm, optimism and maybe even downright euphoria with the way most everyone felt just about 54 weeks ago when Ross came limping back from the SF debacle and not only signed Tony through 2013, but actually gave him more personnel input. (and is that why Columbo darkened our door?"). Now he's Woody's meatball related acid reflux.

Sadly, it's become an unfamiliar sensation.

It's incredible what a difference roughly a year makes!!

this is definitley intriguing.. It's pretty much been the consensus that the only real need on the front 7 in either formation is a pass rusher, so running both makes a lot of sense.. Wouldn't be surprised as others have stated if upshaw is the pick for us now.. Much better fit in both systems than a guy like coples..

I imagine if we are going to run a hybrid, they will make an honest attempt to get big Soliai resigned.

They can be more flexible with his contract and back load it a bit since the cap will be going up quite a big next year and after that.

If Soliai is resigned, Langford is gone IMO.

The hybrid that Saban ran was pretty damn effective. I like it.
