Philbin says QB competition is 'very close'

Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has said thatMatt Moore probably will be the starting quarterback in 2012. Joe Philbin has been much more equivocal.

Appearing Thursday with Joe Rose of WQAM, Philbin said that the three-headed competition has yielded no clear favorite.

If it’s close, it’s hard not to think the job will go to the eighth overall pick in the draft. But that will be one of the stories to watch during Hard Knocks.

If the 2 veterans aren't light years ahead of the rookie then let the T-Hill era begin!
 
Once the pads come on we may have a different perspective on each player. I for one still believe Moore will be the guy. In fact I would be disappointed to see Tannehill take the field this season. Moore, Garard and Tannehill in that order sounds about right.
 
Would we really expect him to say anything else...non-story....
 
All I know is tannehill looked terrible yesterday in live action, he threw 3 ints and was rushing his passes, give the kid time to develop and adapt to the speed of the NFL, philbin is just playing it smart by saying "its close", we dont want to throw the weight of the franchise on this kid just yet.
 
When you run a race, everyone is "close"...at the starting line.

And that's where we are. We're still at the starting line. How many OTAs have we been through? Like four days worth? No mini camps? No training camp? Yeah, they're "close" right now, because they haven't even hardly started yet. If you lined up Vince Wilfork, Jake Long, Jared Allen, Ray Lewis, Ray Rice and DeSean Jackson for side-by-side 40 yard dashes, at the 5 yard mark they would all still be pretty close to one another too. Even the distance between Wilfork and Jackson would be no more than a yard. So let's wait until we get a little closer to the 40 yard mark before we start making assumptions.

I don't think any coach has ever said anything different during the offseason.
