Active Roster
Philbin although too early to tell, comes across as analytical, smart, patient, who wants to teach and develop players. IMO this is ideal when it comes to taking a step back, evaluating players and making game day decisions. Sparano was terrible IMO game day. Terrible decisions (play action on a 3rd and long with a QB who was uncomfortable turning his back to D) and a lack of game management regarding tempo and when to be aggressive.
Sherman IMO is the ideal guy to have as his co-cord. Philbin has never called a game in NFL and IMO Sherman has proven to be at least one thing, a superb offensive mind. He set numerous records for Green Bay in both the run and the pass and is 100% trusted by Philbin.
In regards to our offensive philosophy, Philbin continually uses the word 'flexible', being able to change or adapt and having the ability to do so. He wants players with 'multi' skill sets so they cannot be defined to set-plays. When you look at our roster, granted we need one/two on O'line and a couple of WR's but we do have flexibility.
Reggie Bush is the ultimate 'multi-option' RB. He could genuinly line up at slot WR and last year avg. 5.0 YPC.
Daniel Thomas, although not in the same bracket as Bush, does have very good hands and will benefit from zone blocking scheme.
Charley Clay, much like Reggie Bush is again the ultimate 'multi-option' player, lining up anywhere from, RB/FB/TE/WR.
Devone Bess. He can line up in slot or wide and has shown enough running ability on quick screens.
Fasano, although not the big play receiver, is effective in pass game and also an excellent blocker of which Philbin has stated he wants from a TE.
Looking at these players listed above, if you were a def co-ord and you had Sherman calling the plays on opposite line, would you be able to predict whats coming next?
What people do not realise is that Philbin has talked about developing our own and drafting for future. The oldest player in this bunch is Fasano at only 27. Even taking into account O'line, Jake Long is only 26, both younger than the QB some want in Brandon Weeden.
I think Philbin and Sherman with the pieces we have ALREADY in place, are the ideal and perfect fit for the future of the Dolphins.
