Trading marshall was philbins message to the lockerroom, saying he has arrived and no ones safe. It'll get the team alot more focused alot quicker. brandon Marshall trade was a blessing in disguise.

I think that's doubtful, I think they most likely traded Marshall because we really don't need a number 1 in the offense, and especially not one that drops as many passes as Marshall does.

We traded Marshall bc Philbin is a high character guy who wants all his players to act professional, play with emotion, have respect, and take football as the most serious thing. This goes for Ireland too, he wants the same. Marshall was the opposite of high character.

I don't get this sentiment. Can everyone stop acting like the WC offense doesn't need good receivers? I'd love to see how successful Joe Montana would have been throwing to Brian Hartline & Davone Bess rather than John Taylor and Jerry Rice. You can't solve all you're problems in one year, but let's not all act like we're okay with having Brian Hartline be Ryan Tannehill's #1 receiver for the next 10 years; we'll be looking to upgrade the position next year.

Whatever I'm just happy the guy is gone. I'm also curious if the Wr group turns out to be pretty decent what everyone is going to say then

By throwing the Phins ability to succeed and Matt Moore, who actually sent him to the pro bowl both under the bus, Marshall is being a whiny beyotch who refuses to face the fact that he was held in such low esteem that the most the league would value for his services were 2 measly 3rd rounders. It's a blow to his ego for which he's been trying to deflect responsibility by faulting everyone else. What's next, he's gonna blame that woman in the bar for provoking him to haul off on her?

I agree, Philbin didn't want an out of control, mentally unbalanced, loose cannon onboard for his maiden HC voyage, and that's why he decided to essentially give him away (cause that's obviously the price the league free market would bear).

Thats if none of the draft picks pan out. Most people didn't think Davone Bess was going too be much of a player. We might have a couple of nice surprises this year.

I agree 100%... everyone on here is acting like Hartline is going to blow up and have a monster year when most likely he probably going to have a medicore season and not really do anything to help us win. We need a #1 WR and hopefully a #2 aswell. Hartline would be a 3-4 WR on any decent team but is pushed to the number 1 guy here cuz we have no choice. If we want tanny to be good and hit his full potential we have to give him the right pieces to do so, and hartline and bess and gates r not them. I like Bess and Gates may be ok but we need to really upgrae next year.

Wait, we traded B Marshall? When did this happen? Why didn't anyone bring this up before?

If there had been threads about this before, i think i would have said that there were a number of reasons why we traded him.

For instance, the fact that he is freaking crazy. The fact that he sucker punches women at their birthday parties. That a WR in a WCO needs to run good routes and have good hands, two things that Marshall himself admitted last season he does not do. The fact that he is overpaid, overrated and has a big mouth might have something to do with it. The fact that he wants and though his stupid actions, get attention on him instead of the team.

Maybe our new HC did not want to spend hours explaining why Marshall did what he did or said. Maybe he wants the emphasis to be on the team rather then one player. And just maybe he wants our new 1st round pick rookie QB listening to his ideas about our passing offense then having to listen to the self serving crap that comes out of Marshall's pie hole.

What most are saying is that you don't need a true #1 WR, like Marshall to be successful in the WCO. Will Hartline, Bess, Gates and company be enough, doubtful unless Gates turns into what many think he can be. If you put Donald Driver, Greg Jennings and Jordy Nelson in Sparano's or Gailey's or Turner's vertical offense, they'd have a tough time figuring who the #1 is because none of those guys qualify. Are they not good receivers ? Of course they are... Chris Chambers was a good receiver for us, but not as a #1 guy. John Taylor and Jerry Rice would not have fit in as a #1 WR in most offenses of their time...Would JR be the best WR of all times right now without Walsh's WCO, doubtful. That's the point, that we can be successful without a Brandon Marshall, not that our WR corps is adequate at this point...

Secondly, despite his production he was a malcontent and trouble maker for this team. Even now, he continues to bad-mouth this team, which makes no sense to most of us. All they did was put up with him thru his 'discovery' time, when he figured out what was causing a lot of his problems, give him a stage to discuss his mental issues publicly and put up with him while all this was going on. And his way of handling things was to not keep his concentration and drop more than his share of passes, more than his share of what would have been TD passes (9 in two years by most accounts) and aside from having issues off the field, he create issues on the field, on the practice field, in the locker room and publicly bash his coaches and teammates.

Thirdly, his production as a WR was superficial. He had some good stats, like 81 recpts, 1214 yrds playing with the very QBs he continually bashed publicly. But he also took plays off when he wasn't involved, disappeared in the red zone, dropped way too many passes and his TD production for a #1 WR was not anywhere near the level of most elite WRs...

Couple these things together and Ireland had no choice but to dump him, and getting a couple of 3rds is fine by most for the problems he created and lack of real production.

Back to the point, yes...this WR corps, as we see it now, is lacking. But Marshall would really have made it that much better...

matt moore sent brandon marshall to the probowl? thats news to me!

I suppose I can expect matt moore to send hartline to the probowl this year than? hell, he hands off to the runningback on every running play, maybe he can send reggie bush to a probowl this year, no??

Or i suppose I can expect him to be a .500 quarterback again, like his career record indicates he is.

i was one of marshalls biggest fans, I was pissed we traded him, than I got over it. how many threads do we need like this?

yeah, as compared to Marshall being on the verge of sending your bromance, Chad Henne to IR

Who says that Hartline will be our #1 receiver? We have more OTA's, training camp and preseason games... Also we might sign a veteran receiver like Donald Driver or Braylon Edwards...

IMO. Hartline is a solid #2 receiver and I mean solid.
