I really enjoyed watching the show. My favorite part was how Philbin was running practice. For those who did not watch, he had the coaches line up in the middle of the field, with O & D in front of them as well as behind them. One group of 22 runs a play. Then the coaches turn around, and the other 22 run a play.

HBO said this allows Miami to run many more plays that all other teams. With practices being cut in the new CBA, this is BRILLIANT!!!

Only a matter of time before other teams copy.

True but I'm unhappy about the fact that now the other 31 teams know how we do it so the advantage next year will be gone. I don't see many teams trying to start this now so we still have the advantage this season.

It's hard to believe this is the first time a coach has ever tried something like this. It's a smart thing to do and it gets more reps out of everyone but it hardly seems like it would be an innovative idea. Even if other teams copy it though I still think Miami will be more uptempo with the way Philbin preaches it having the QB's make sure everyone is hustling their ass off to get up and get the play off. This tempo can help win some games imo and I don't forsee any penalties for delay of game being called against us this season lol.

I expect 31 other teams have it in play today. :) It's a very simple thing to do. However, I am OVERLY impressed with his coming up with it. Buy the man a Guinness!!! LOL

At 13:56, when Ireland is talking to Coach, is that finheaven up on Irelands' desktop? lol

Yeah, to a degree it's almost like having a double practice, with all coaches being able to evaluate 44 players by just turning around. There are practices where two different groups go to different sides of the field but, this is much different. No player gets time to even think about the last play. We may have found our answer at HC, and possibly at QB.

BE STILL MY HEART!!!

You lost me here. What does Ireland's desktop and what he has on it, have to do with Philbin's great idea?

I'm from South Beach, and have led a "sheltered life." :)

The fins are doing it in 90 degree weather and high humidity. I think there will always be some kind of advantage regardless if other teams do it. Hopefully visiting teams melt even faster against this offense in the early months.

Yes AND no. I love the idea of the way practice is ran, but it is something that is more a product of the new CBA than anything else. While it is true that you get many more plays which is very important now with the cut down practice periods, there are also some negatives. Players can't be corrected until after practice. Before when you had more time between plays, positions coaches would have time to take players in their group aside and explain things play by play. Now young players who are learning whole new concepts have to practice mistakes for a whole day before they get them corrected.

This new system will work great for vets who already know most of what they need to learn, it is also great for conditioning and has it's merits for QBs who need to learn to read defenses as quickly as possible. It will help the offense get used to the speed the coaches want to play at to keep defenses from substituting and taking advantage of mismatches. But players like Les Brown will have a very hard time learning at this pace. Humans need time to process information. Although I do love the idea there are times when they also need to run it at a slower pace IMO. One thing is for sure, you WON'T be seeing other teams copy it THIS year. There is a lot more to it than just speeding up practice. It's not just something you can change in the middle of a TC.

The intangibles are what makes it so useful. Since RT already knew the system it gives him a great chance to see things at a more game speed. It also dictates what the defenses can do which is also great for RT and the rest of the QBs. But if RT had came from another college system it would have made it much harder for him to get up to speed.

Humans learn at different speeds, and for some it will be the greatest things since sliced bread, but for others who learn slower or have more to learn, it may become VERY frustrating IMO.

I think its time for DaTruth55 to come out and tell us who he really is :)

In all due respect, I'm at a loss here again. I wanted to talk with Dolphans about a VG move by our new HC. I see questions on who a poster really is, wanting Goodell impeached, and the Stockholm Syndrome.

Is this forum still about the Miami Dolphins or, has it changed?
