Philbin's stock just went up IMO!!

Doing the right thing? it was the ONLY thing to do. You had a fringe player w/ past issues that was on a short leash. Chad wasn't a vital part of your team so he made the only decision he could make. A difficult decision would be a similar situation w/ a player that is important to the long term success of the team.

That's why it'll be telling this season how The Voyeuristic Foot Perv handles and muzzles locker room cancer SAntonio. :idk:

2 totally different situations as santonio has never had an off field issues w/ the Jets but if he did something like Chad has supposedly done then I'd expect action. It's much harder to cut a guy when you have so much cap room invested in them.

Like I said in another thread Philbins style reminds me of this famous quote:

"Speak softly and carry a big stick".

I'm gonna buck the trend here and say I'm yet to be convinced about Philbin. I thought he came over as very awkward and uncomfortable in his new role on hard knocks last week. His talk with Chad on that show put a big question in my mind about his ability to man manage. He seems to be a very dry and humourless individual, that kind of demeanour works for Belicheck but I'm not so sure it'll work with this team, he'll need the backing of the most talented players on the roster and this incident won't have helped him there. I'm not saying he was wrong to cut Chad because it was absolutely the only right decision but in doing so he's set a tone (which is the right one, that we'll not stand for any nonsense) and made his job of winning the locker room much more difficult.

The start of that will be in the next preseason game, and the 1st string needs to improve dramatically on the performance on Saturday, he needs to inject a feel good factor in the team and with the fans. If he can overcome this and guide us to a season where clear progress (that doesn't necessarily mean a winning season or even an improvement on last year's record) has been made then I will jump on the Philbin bus, but for now I remain waiting by the side of the road and a little wary.

You saw Philbin speak for no more than 30 mins last week. I don't think it's fair to already come to a conclusion on the guy based off that

Nope, nor is it fair to come to any other conclusion. That's exactly what I said, I unsure about him, like everyone else we need to judge him after he's handled this team throughout the season. But right now my initial impressions of him is that have much more confidence in his ability to coach than his ability to man manage, you need both skills, as well as a talented roster to succeed of course.

The fact that Coach Philbin comes from an organization where they don't have to deal with these type of personalities probably has a lot to do with why he's not interested in taking on the headache. Every coach that comes to Miami ends up having to deal with overpaid morons that have an opinion but no concept of winning.

It starts at the top and **** rolls downhill. Coach Philbin or anybody else that weeds out these baffoons are to be applauded, not criticized. It's Jeff Ireland that should be the one in front of a camera confessing that they're his mistakes.

Coaches already know that they're hired to be fired at every level. Philbin inparticular has a hell of a task in front of him trying to turn an organization and culture down in Miami into a legitimate contender that flat out makes people want to piss on the sidewalk on their way out of town while moving on to better things.

They have a top 10 pick invested at the quarterback position that they have to make sure they develope, and a barrell full of lazy and underperforming athletes scattered all across the roster that are going to require some hurt feelings soon. Coddling any immature sideshows who are supposed to be grown men approaching their mid 30's is far down the list of Philbin's priorities. That I'll guarantee.

They should sticky this post.

So in your mind Jeff brought Chad in, without any influence from Philbin, and Philbin sent him packing with no influence from Jeff?? Sorry sir I don't see it that way. I feel it was a joint decision both times.

But I do agree with everything else you say. Great post!!!

You can say that about the Giants and Patriots too. TEAM FIRST. Individuals after. It's so ingrained into their psyche, that every player who has played for them honors the "Patriot way.". Except for Johnson.

The patriot way??? I think I'm gonna be sick!

It's pretty clear now that Philbin was the driving force behind the Marshall trade and now the cutting of Ocho. That's twice now that he put character above talent and I think it's the proper way to build a champion. Dansby obviously has his reasons for his opinion, but I bet the other receivers feel different

I think there's always give-and-take in the coach GM partnership. I can see Ireland saying something like:

"Joe, I know what you're thinking, but I just want you to give him a look. If he's not working, it's a contract we can cut."

I both agree and disagree. I agree that the discussion with Chad was not easy to watch. He seemed weak and soft, rather than a leader who tells someone the way it is going to be. I even made several post about this last week, but like I said then we haven't seen enough to know. I said I would let his actions speak louder than words and they did. When he had to make a decision he did, and I also loved the way he handled Karlos, by saying when asked if he had any concerns with what was being said by Karlos, Philbin said, "no, absolutely not". Then said we all have bosses but it was his belief that those things needs to be kept "in house".

This idea of being a "feel good" coach is the absolute WORST thing he could be. It is not the job of a leader to be someones "friend". He needs to do NOTHING to win back the locker room except "stay the course". The only time he should worry is if he hears that everyone in the locker room "loves him". THATs when he needs to worry.

That could have very well been the case. Then again, lets remember that from the very beginning Ross said that Ireland would have the final say IN ALL personnel decisions. Both the hiring AND the firing. What that means to me is Jeff gets the information and opinions from everyone in the know, then makes the final decision. From everything we have been told this is Jeff's decision to make, but there is nothing to suggest Philbin disagreed in any way.

I have a hard time applauding moves that are more OBVIOUS than they are exemplary. I don't think in this case Philbin or anyone else was going out on a limb to do the right thing. It was OBVIOUSLY the right thing. This is the same reason that I have a very difficult time applauding Ireland for the Tannehill selection... It was OBVIOUS.

Selecting a developmental QB with excellent intangibles and sky high ceiling at number 8 or anywhere else when you don't have one... is OBVIOUS... Cutting a DISTRACTION who is clearly more focused on self promotion and has almost zero on field value... Moments after he gives his wife and the organization a black eye... Again... OBVIOUS.

I think the fact that we are standing and applauding things that should be more 'run of the mill' than noteworthy are much more an indication of how bad things have been for so long.
