i'll be the first to admit i didn't really like the merling pick when we made it. i favored quentin groves with that selection. however, am i the only one who sees an awful lot of a young richard seymour in philip merling???

the resemblence i see is in his ability to shed blockers and get quickly in the backfield a la seymour in his prime. this kid is really quick giving him inside leverage for his size and uses his hands pretty well and he has a nose for the ball. i can see him dominating the run game down the line and bringing pretty consistent pass rush vs the pass. for a guy just now learning 3-4 end in the pros he sure is looking good.

love this pick. looks like seymour to me.

yea he definitely looks like seymour lol.

I kind of like the idea of him and Langford on the ends in a 3-4. I know some people want to move him to OLB in the 3-4 ala Merriman (who he sort of looks like also) . . . but he has looked solid, and his weight is right there with Langford. Great picks by this organization.

I hope not. Seymore is one of the most overrated DE's in the NFL in my opinion....

PHINZ RULE!!!

in his prime seymour was as dominant as they come. i remember years where he was in the backfield against us on every play.

he may be overrated now i guess but there was a good 3-4 years there where he was flat out dominant.

i like your camp reports but i've got to wonder now how well you evaluate talent.

richard seymour was dominant. laugh all you want.

or maybe a younger Shawne Merriman???

Whatever you say, but I'm not the one here calling Seymore, {who averages less than 5 sacks a year} a "flat out dominant" DE....

PHINZ RULE!!!

when did sacks become the measure of a dominant 3-4 end??? sacks are a bonus. and how is not having 10 sacks in a season from a 3-4 end a measuring stick???

PH moves around the football field a'lot better then Seymour ever did.

I'm not saying he's better, but the one game i saw PH play in college and he looked much more like a young Bruce Smith then a Richard Seymour.

PH is just way more explosive then Seymour.

Forget comparing him to seymore, he is Phillip Merling. Philip Merling and Kendall LAngford as 3-4 end looks dominant. I hope Solial Develops into that mammoth NT we need once fergurson leaves.

if you know and understand the game you dont need to record sacks to be dominant my friend. disrupting plays, being in the back field 75% of the time, breaking down the pocket almost evrey time is pretty darn dominant.
