This guy came to play some ball this season, he was tossing lineman out his way like rag dolls, he wants his JOB BACK, and after that performance i bet he earned it. I absolutely love our Defensive front, i didnt see any difference in performance between our starting 3, and the backup 3, or any combination of those guys, We have one STOUT FRONT, and that puts a big smile on my face, our linebackers will WREAK HAVOC because of this.

I cant wait till Monday!

I hope we bounce back strong against the Colts.

He wants his job back? I don't remember Merling ever being a starter?

Yes, he played well and will be solid if he keeps working hard and stays hungry.

Merling, Langford, Smith & Davis are looking like not too shabby draft picks for the Parcells era, so far.

I am reserving judgement on him until he shows up in more than one game. After re-watching the game, the left side of their OL absolutely sucked. The guard (63) in particular was pathetic. He was pushed around by Starks also...watch the first play when he is driven two yards into the backfield by Starks.

So, for now...I am not sure if it was Merling...or just an aberration of playing against a truly bad left side of the line.

By the way...I wouldn't be too happy about the prospects of the season in Atlanta...we think we have problems with our line...theirs absolutely stunk the place up.

Our front 7 is the strength of the team no questions about it in my book.
Soliai is the one guy I want to step up and show he is going to be a starter in this league. A lot of our pieces are young guys who hopefully will be here for awhile. Soliai played very well in the snaps he got and even the fact that he got that many snaps in the 1st game tells a story. Mcdanial also got more snaps than I was expecting. Being able to stop the run is one of the most important things in football and all signs point to us being able to exacute that task this year

I told you guys for months that the DL is one of the deepest, most talented, and strongest areas of our team.. When you guys were panicking about Vonnie Holliday I was saying not to worry, these young guys can play, and we are deep and we'll be fine.

Langford-Ferguson-Starks
McDaniel-Soliai-Merling

Is a very healthy and very nice D-line rotation.. When those young guys develop further this year, we will have one of the very best D-Line rotations in the league. And they are all young with the exception of Ferguson.. And it was nice to see Soliai drive Atlanta's center 2 yards and 3 yards back on Sunday when he was in,

McDaniel was also getting very nice push. He was a total steal for a 7th.. Our young D-line is the reason why we b*tch-slapped the 2nd best rushing team in the NFL last Sunday. Until the last drive of the game, Atlanta only had 40 yards on the ground, and averaged less than 2 yards per carry.

Maybe that's why our OLine is looking so crappy. Because our young talented DLinemen have been beating them up all camp.

All we need to do is draft a young nose tackle in next years draft and we should be fine for a long time!

I would actually like to see him try and become a SOLB. He might actually be good at it if he was a little quicker and he does have the strength for it already.

IMO he is perfect as our 3-4 DE. no need to switch him up

I don't really have a good feel for this starks/merling competition. Statistically, Merling was a superior player last year. His stats looked identical to Langford. So Merling should be the starter, on paper.

However, he has been behind starks, an average player, on the depth chart for 2 years.

I guess Merling is labeled as a gamer... does that mean he looks like crap in practice? Is Starks a superior practicer?

I'm just a bit confused on how Merling is a superior talent, who gets more tackles and more pressure and more sacks, and yet he's the backup; and the last game was just another example of how I've felt about the situation since last year.

Starks had the best point of attack number on the line last year he is not avg at all
