Let's face it there weren't a lot of positives from last night. The O-line was pretty bad and this may be one of the worst rushing offenses we've had here in the Sparano era. Of course it's hard for those guys to get any better in practice thanks to the new CBA rules that have taken away two-a-days and turned practice into more of a flag football event. We may not see the real thing till week 5...I hope.

Anyway, Phillip Livas may have made himself a spot on the team. We may have to carry 6 WRs because I get the feeling if we let this guy go New England, Jets and Buffalo will be first in line to pick the kid up and he'll be returning kicks on us for a long time to come. 3 punt returns for 90 yards with a 75 yard TD, 3 kick returns for 84 yards, 28 yard average...that's a heck of a lot of field position he gives us.

I think you have to find a spot for the kid.

He seems pretty explosive back there. The first couple of runs he managed to trip himself up, but I can definitely see this guy being a threat for us in the special teams department. Hopefully he keeps it up the rest of the pre-season.

I said the day we signed him that we were NOT going to use R Bush as a kick or punt returner.

One big reason beside the simple fact that R Bush could get hurt or has not return any kicks for any decent yards or TDs in years was a couple of UDFA signings.

RB/WR/KR Phillip Livas, Louisiana Tech (5-8, 180): Tiny speedster (4.46 40) returned eight kicks for touchdowns in his college career

CB Vince Agnew, Central Michigan (5-10, 192): Only started one year, but ran on the track team in college (4.4 40) and can return kicks.

RB Nic Grigsby, Arizona (6-0, 203): Struggled with shoulder and ankle injuries last two years, but can run a 4.4 40 and has added 10 pounds since college

Surprise he only runs a 4.47 he seems much faster than that..easily mid 4.3

I pointed this out earlier in the offseason, but 2 years ago Sparano was ready to hand Chris Williams (another undersized UDFA known for his return skills) a roster spot and the KR/PR role, but in his audition as the main guy, he had fumbling problems.

Livas got himself noticed with the return.

Let's see how the next few games go. He did trip himself up and had a half dozen shoestring tackles against if he can continue to impress I say why not.

Unfortunately, this staff seems to favor STs tacklers, who btw still end up sucking @ss, over speedy returners.

I think some of you are overhyping this guy way to much. There are guys who return punts in pre-season on teams every year, and end up getting cut because they're not that good at their actual skill posistion. I think that will be the case with Livas..

You could be right. But the guy is a very good returner. If used correctly he can be a good addition to this team. He needs to keep proving his worth but its hard to imagine any other player taking over any return duties over him.

He is the only player on our team with 4 punt returns for TDs and 4 Kick Off returns for TDs in college.

Who else do you want us to get excited about?

:)

I know he is pretty small, but he seemed well built. If he could add anything on ST tackling, such as being a gunner, or being on kickoff coverage...then I think he should be a lock. Id keep him either way personally, that field position, as well as an explosive play here and there could be invaluable to this team.

Play Livas more and more in preseason. He must earn a spot. That return showed what he is capable of. But the WR position is stacked with potential right now. They need to play him as much as possible in the next 3 preseason games. If he just keeps stepping up, give him a spot.
