and other fans in the area as well, I hope you all are safe and out of harms way. Those forced to stay (RN and Coast Guard friends of mine are forced to, though they wouldn't have it any other way), best of luck to you and your families. I'm hoping it weakens.

I don't know too much about it, and of course my thoughts and prayers are with everyone down there. But i think i heard it was supposed to weaken?

It's terrible that it's heading that way again. Stay safe everyone.

I live in the Jackson, MS area and we do not have any vacancies at our hotels. There are likely no vacancies any where this far north and on. We got 100 mile an hour winds from Katrina three years ago. But they are saying it may not hit us as hard this time. But our coast will catch it, especially being on the right side of the storm. I work for the state, and last time I was on the coast relieving one of our programs. If this storm does more than Katrina New Orleans will catch it big. Remember, the levies are what really did the damage to New Orleans three years ago. The eye came over in Mississippi and the structural damage was the most severe across the Mississippi coast. The town that caught the eye was practically wiped out. The mail service could not find any residences to deliver mail in most the city limits.
The best we can do beyond following sensible procedures here is to pray.

Yeah, my best friend lives in Slidell, which caught the east eyewall. The damage was insane. He'll be staying because his father-in-law refuses to leave without his RN wife who has to stay, but he's too old to take it on by himself. Luckily, his house is built for these and they are well-prepared.
