Miami currently is 5th in total penalties with 18 over 3 games. And 9 of those alone were from the Raiders game where the zebras clearly took the Raiders on a 1st half bet.

Kudos to Gase and the staff for getting this under control. I thought this was going to be a major issue for us after last couple years and watching the preseason. It probably also helps not having Landry, Suh, and Pouncey who are good for 6 a game alone. :nah:

A lot of games, especially close ones, can come down to hidden yards and mistake free football. Glad to see we are staying disciplined in the first few games. We will need to keep this up to beat the really good teams on our schedule. Starting with NE next week.

*As a comparison we finished 31st in 2017 and tied for 30th in 2016.

*After 3 games last year we had 24 penalties, 26th in the NFL at that point.

Here is the current list:

Well those 2 OPIs weren't even close to OPI. But on the other hand, Hayes probably should have gotten flagged on the play where he tore his ACL if the Raiders got flagged for a similar play on Tannehill. But nitpicking specific penalties aside, awesome that the team has focused on and corrected this. I know many of us were concerned in preseason. Tunsil and James have been surprisingly clean too.

Agreed. The Dolphins have been given the benefit of a doubt overall, other than the one ridiculous drive.

Hayes and the Raiders guy should have been treated the same...either both called or both not. The Raiders guy seemingly had nowhere else to fall since there was traffic on either side of him. That was a massive call because otherwise the Dolphins instead of a touchdown on the next play either settle for a long field goal or most likely the Raiders accept the holding penalty to allow 3rd and 19 outside of field goal range.

Hayes really played that poorly. It was like an inept slide by a quarterback. He extended his right leg awkwardly and obviously intentionally but the body weight and that rule are not defined by the legs. He just as easily could have been called for the penalty along with tearing the ligament. The announcers were miffed at lack of penalty. I have no idea how Hayes rationalized that kicking his leg out while landing with full force with his torso was the proper method to deal with the new rule.

Can we just get rid of the rule? To tell a guy, albeit a Dolphin or any other player, that is going full speed that he has to contort his body and make a tackle, is wrong in SO many ways. Maybe the younger crowd is soft and applauds this move, but this is football. You hit a guy when you make a tackle. Asking someone to not hit a guy in the head is a perfectly reasonable request(although there are times when it can not be avoided), but asking a player to tackle someone without falling on them is totally ridiculous. Anyone blaming the player for his actions and especially when he seriously injuries himself in the process, I find repugnant. Another point - What if a OL makes a pancake block? Are they going to start saying that you can not land on a DL? No. Why? Because the reality is that this league only cares about those players that they can use from a PR standpoint. Last time I looked the QB is first and foremost a football player. Hell, they can't block on kickoffs so let's get rid of it and put the ball on the 25yd. line. They are slowly destroying this sport. The NFL is not going to stand for the No Fun League, but the No Football League because it is not going to be the same game after these morons get through with it.

Kudos to the Fins - I was greatly concerned headed into the season after the preseason issues.

I don't care as to why there were so many penalties in the preseason and now they've been cleaned up, doesn't make sense to me, but it doesn't have to.

We're connecting on all cylinders right now and penalties is a big part of it.

It's illegal to land on a QB, but no problem with Grant

I think he tried to let his leg take the brunt of the impact. The rule is stupid and more guys are going to get hurt - just not the QBs. Why can I fall w all my weight on a RB but not the QB? Jerry Jones is being vocal about it. Even the QBs in the Pack game are saying the calls were lame and THEY benefited. Asking the D to do too much. I don’t care if QBs get injured. Next man up - there worked for us in ‘72. Worked for the Giants in ‘90. Worked for Philly last year. The Nick Foles story is a great one that the NFL could have done a better job marketing. If the QB is just way too comfy back there we will see more and more 70%+ passers (lame) and guys playing 20 years or so. Fresh blood is better for the league than watching guys year in and out tear it up due to favorable conditions IMO. The NFL is screwing this up royally. I don’t want 54-49 games which is where this thing is headed.
