Phins didn't want to spend: Ireland safe, not Sparano -- Armando MH article

It's BS if it's true.

Upgrading a couple of position could be the difference between being 0-3 and 3-0.

How many times was Henne sacked today? Having a competent O-line, a better RG and RT would have made a huge difference.

If Ross did put a limit on the cash that could be spent, good for him.

This front office has had 4 drafts and 3 free agency periods where they could go nuts. They burned 20 million on Justin Smiley. They burned 30 million on Jake Grove. They burned 100 million on Marshall and Dansby. And the team was still lacking, some of the holes on the team have already been filled multiple times(how many damn free safeties have we had?).

If Ross was tired of spending money with no return, then i cant blame him in the least. He probably feels he's spent more then enough already.

If you dont thrust ''these clowns'' with your money, then WTF are ''these clowns'' doing there in the first place... Disturbing...

Being placeholders until we have a more reasonable/non-lockout NFL offseason in which to make changes?

That's the bad news (if true).

The good news ... should be the last time that happens, it EMPTIED the stadium!! lol And if not even true ... should be eager to spend more in Free Agency in the future.

What galls my balls even worse ... we keep overpaying our average players (instead of building/upgrading). We cut guys & unless young prospects ... they go to the couch & aren't picked up by anyone. (i.e. Crowder, 27 & highly experienced ... prime NFL age & experience ... on the couch, counting that money from his recent big contract!!)

I am thinking Sparano will be fired during the season, ireland will be fired after the season because cower etc want some control over personnel, not to mention that Ireland has done a piss poor job as well. Personally i would leave them both in the job until season's end. I would rather have Luck than win 5 games.

Exactly.

If it's true and we are talking about it on an internet forum then coaching candidates know about it too. Unless somebody desperately wants to coach the Dolphins why would they want to work for a guy who cuts your balls off and still expects you to win.

If you hire a guy to do a job, let them do their job and give them every chance to succeed. If they don't, fire them. Don't string them along like a booty call until you find what you're looking for.

I always said Ross sucked as an owner. He is wayne part II. You cannot be a "fan" and be a capable owner in the NFL. There is little time to learn the business and he is just someone with a ton of money that saw Miami as a way to make money regardless of the overall product. Ross has no clue what the **** he is doing and he is going to continue to tarnish this franchise. If this is true, there is so much wrong with this franchise and we are in deep crap...

While Miami tanks this year and his season ticket holders threaten to keep canceling, he will have no recourse but to hire a big name coach like Gruden or Cowher. You can bank on that. The guy has no football sense at all.

Completely disagree. I think as a fan you want to help your team succeed, and on the business side, sell your product. Robert Kraft of the Pats was a 30 year season ticket holder and become the owner. Hows that for an example?

I can't wait until Ross hates this team... I hate almost everything about him.

If Ireland is safe this team needs to be boycotted next season. Home games attendance should resemble current Marlins week day afternoon starts.

We may have a deeper problem then just the GM and coach. The owner apparently didn't want to spend money for higher end TE's and tackles.

This is far worse than just the GM and Coach. In the past we had owners who had no problem spending money; $8million below cap.

The owner may be a bigger problem; it will cause Class A coaches to stay away.

Hope this article wasn't right.

the article is clearly right. and it should have been evident beginning last year when there was a lot of penny pinching going on come roster cut down time. paul soliai didnt get paid, and regardless of what some posters around here want to think he wasnt being greedy - simply asking for market prices which the dolphins werent willing to pay, and he will eventually receive. there is a lot of penny pinching going on. including the resigning of sparano last year with a lockout looming. ross didnt want to pay 2 coaches potentially.

bottom line is regardless of the holes this roster has, and regardless if we did or didnt fill some holes in the secondary and on the line in the offseason. this team needs better leadership. we need a real coach that players can respect, and somebody that knows how to minimize the teams deficiencies and maximize its strengths. this coach has zero clue how to do this.

and the clear evidence is the stubborn insistence that we continue to run bush into the line when all it takes is an arm tackle to bring him down. combined with his one target and one reception today. this team has got to get this guy the ball on the edge of the field and throw him the ball. it makes no sense

LoL miami fans are too funny.

i dont get why any of this comes down to ireland? before the season 90 percent of ppl in miami were AGAINST getting orton in here and thought we had a talented team.

if these 2 things are true than sparano is the problem and not ireland.

why is everyone acting like Ross sabatoged the team by not allowing over-paying and REACHING for players??? why does everyone assume ireland is gone and ross wants some guy like Cowher??? WHY?

it was explicity stated in the media last year that IRELAND WENT WITH ROSS TO TALK TO HARBAUGH and they had no connection with cowher b/c ROSS WANTED TO KEEP IRELAND AND KEEP CERTAIN PARTS OF THE TEAM INTACT.

is it not more plausible that Ross simply told ireland not to reach for guys like orton and older o-lineman b/c the FA class was weak and he wanted to give sparano and henne ONE LAST CHANCE before drafting a new QB and hiring a new harbaugh-like head coach next year? b/c he didnt want to tie up money in orton and o-lineman that have 1 or 2 more seasons b/c he didnt love sparano to start anyway and wanted to save money and draft picks to further build the right way next year??? Ross wanted Bush and he and ireland made it happen etc. Ireland and Ross are talking.

i say ross likes ireland and likes certain players on this team and believes that coaching is the problem. i believe ireland has a huge chance of being safe.

i love how something so arbitrary as u cant be a "fan" and be an good owner is thrown out there like its what makes him a poor owner. makes zero sense. love it when people find random meaningless things to discredit the guy as an owner as if he didnt walk into this mess. lets let the guy at least hire a head coach and have more than 1 year of ownership under his belt before we start saying a bunch of **** that makes no sense.

this wasnt getting turned around in one year. at least the guy cares. if he wants it bad enough hell find a way to turn it around. i believe he will

and to be honest. those WERE the correct moves, regardless of the problems this team is having now. it is CERTAINLY a better course of action to develop through the draft than continue to put bandaids on a situation that is critically bleeding. so we go and sign som of these guys and finish 7-9 or 9-7 again. please tell me what that accomplishes?? it does make more sense to do this on the cheap, stockpile draft picks, find a quarterback and real head coach, build through the draft and THEN add some free agent pieces when the team is on the verge of being a legit playoff team.

look at detroit. thats exactly what they did. look what the 11-5 season did for us. NOTHING. it set us back. parcells came in signed a ton of high priced free agents with injury or production problems, brought in a QB that should have been nothing more than a backup on a very very good contending playoff team as insurance. and we paid the price.

that **** MUST END. and it has. parcells first year set this team back, and ireland had a brought in some talent in the draft this year.

we need the coach. we need the QB. we will get them. there is no point in sabotaging future success for a couple meaningless wins. this team isnt ready, and im glad we didnt spend carelessly in the offseason. just hope we get a top 10 pick. hope its better than that!

We have 8 million to spend, as well as never locking up Soliai for a smaller amount then the 12 plus mill he makes. O boy, we don't need to improve anywhere.....
