Phins Don't Want To Pay Ronnie #2 Money?

just a couple comments about the article.....

...while I still think we should have traded down (even though my understanding is the best offer we had was for a trade down and that teams 1st next year...and before you ask..I don't remember the team) the fans...the media...everyone would have been up in arms if we let the pick time pass and not select a player until after the top 5. That and even though we let it slip....we would have another problem....the pick would have been holding out for #2 money anyway...it happened the year Minny 1st year Minny screwed up and didn't pick on time. That guy held out for money from the teams orginal spot(the next year they did the same thing but in my heart of hearts I think they did it on purpose) Anyway..it is something that makes sense..but likely wouldn't happen..especially with a new coach trying to prove his way in the NFL.

Second...it's scary to think that one way or another we're going to pay a RB, who's never played a down, more than any other back already in the NFL....including guys like LaDanian....it's just more proof that we need to slot the picks monetarily...read my other posts on that subject if you're interested...they're just too long to go into again. This is one area that the article hits the nail on the head.

I think the NFLPA needs to approach this in the next CBA...

A rookie salary cap would be a suitable thing...the rookies would earn less BUT there would be more cap room to give the veterans the money they deserve...

I agree with the Fins, if Edge and ALexander can be had for less $ than Brown, let Brown sit. No use to throw money away for the sake of throwing it away.

Then why did we sign him? This team knew damn well that they were going to have to give up a lot of money for the number 2 pick. Regardless of if you think an unproven player deserves that money it is the way the NFL works. So get over it an pay him his money. Dont draft number 2 if you don't plan on paying big bucks.

That's exactly what I've been saying...it sorta feels like the team is trying to change the way picks are paid...to an extent anyway.

the NFL and the NFLPA have got to change it or the frequency of this stuff is going to increase every year.

It doesn't help that the RB money as a whole is way way down. Teams just don't pay much for a good RB anymore. Perhaps that's why a RB hasn't been taken in the top 5 picks in so long! Seems that we just screwed up as a team and took a low value (money wise) position too high in the draft.

Nick was right "there aren't any great players who are physical freaks in the draft". But in knowing that, he should have pulled the trigger and traded down...even if it wasn't "equal value to the chart". In a weak draft at the top, that value chart should be thown out the window. He's the one who's caused this situation to happen! I know that's harsh and the "Saban can do no wrong" guys aren't gonna like hearing that but it's true. There were other options than taking a RB at @2 overall.

Thats the way it works in the NFL until someone challenges it. I applaud the Phins for not giving in.
