Phins Draft Grader 2009- 2011

Odrick is much much better than a 0.0 player that they evaluate. He's a good contributor who has consistently improved. I don't think they are good evaluators if they can't see any worth in Odrick. It's a B/S report

I was also surprised at where they had Odrick.

That list is just more proof that we hit on acorns, but busted on higher picks. I'll never figure out what happened with Patrick Turner.

In any case, when I clicked on a couple other teams, for example the Giants who generally draft well, and the Steelers, they had a lot of JAGS in there just like we did.

Jared Odrick, DL (28th overall pick in 2010): A player who is definitely trending upwards. Played just 22 snaps as a rookie before making a bigger impression in his second year. A move to a 4-3 end role in 2012 didn’t get the best out of him but kicking back to tackle full time in 2013 gave us a long look at a man who deserved to be taken in the first round. Another year like that and the only question will be what positive grade he gets

I would definitely agree with you if this was based on the player he became last year, when he played up to a first round pick. However, I have to mostly agree with them based on his 4 year career. I throw out the first season on IR. So, he came on in his 3rd year, which often happens. In his other 2 years, he did flash but, did not play like a 1st round pick. JMO

Agree on the acorns. IF we could have just hit on some of the higher picks, those drafts would have been pretty good.

I looked at a few other teams as well, and we were not the "Lone Ranger" on a number of bad picks but, we only have 8 players left from those 3 year's of picks.

Finally getting the adequate production out of your 1st RD pick right as his rookie contract is about to expire (speaking of Odrick) = so Miami Dolphins.

This is just a theory but I think the majority of Ireland's own scouting time and effort was spent on the top 100 prospects or so and while he was still responsible for the "acorns" he spent much less time contemplating them. So the real Jeff Ireland shows up more for the top of the draft while the bottom is probably a testament to his scouting department, which admittedly was decent.

True story. Looks like, we will have 8, hopefully 9 starters drafted by the team this year in RT, Hartline, Pouncey, Clay, OV?,Odrick, Misi, Jones, and a RT?. Hartline, Clay, Jones, and OV were acorns. Everything else had to come from FA. That's hard to believe.

We traded down with San Diego for the 12th pick (remember we lost our 2nd rounder in the Marshall trade). Chargers moved up and got RB Ryan Matthews and we got Jared Odrick and Koa Misi. Yes, Odrick was on IR in year 1, but I strongly contend that we have already got the best of that trade. Odrick didn't contribute as much to begin with because there were other D-line players like Soliai and Starks contributing more and D-linemen often take longer to fully develop as starters, but that doesn't make the Odrick selection a bad draft pick, which is what the evaluator is contending. I am happy to defend Odrick all day, every day.

They are not calling Odrick a bad pick. Quite the opposite, they said he gave us a long look last year as a player who DESERVED to be a first rounder, and another year like that will not be a question of positive grades, just what they will be.

I think that is very fair but the current grade includes the first 3 years, as well as last year. Odrick needs no defense on what they have said, as they are saying that he is a legit 1st round pick.

Is it me or are we one of the few teams who get "just good enough" type players? Long was the last elite type of player we drafted.

No, it's not you. The Dolphin's drafts are like a box of Russell Stover candies. You go in hoping for an almond cluster, but get stuck with an an apricot cream. ;-)

I go into the first round looking for Godiva, and have gotten stuck with a Hershey's bar or, a stale piece of licorice. lol

Odrick was taken in the first round. First rounders are supposed to be Pro Bowlers. His 0.0 grade is exactly right. Reshad struggled last year because they used him more in the middle of the field. He needs to be a box safety. The only grade I disagree with was DT. I think they were way to generous. He's terrible he should have been a -1.0 or -1.5

GMs get paid to hit on the higher picks. Hitting on acorns without hitting on high picks is like pouring gravy on the plate when you don't have any potatoes there.

Now we understand why Jeff Ireland was a bust and had to be fired.
