Some may care, some may not care at all what he's doing now but here's the story on him.

I know I still see him as the biggest draft bust that helped cripple the super bowl chances during the Marino era. As a player I still hold him in about as low a regard as you could. Football is only football though and it's good to see the man is doing fine.

I'm glad to hear that he is doing good now. I know he's production in Miami wasn't good, and I think he was the one who fumbled on the goal line in two straight games when they were going for a win?

Ya I remember the Houston Oilers fumble on the goaline like it was yeseterday. Boy did he suck as a player. It's great to see a guy who gets a second chance on life take it and run with it. That's what the judicial system and corrections system is about. Job well done Sammie.

I've been a fan since 1970, and thankfully, the Sammie days are a blur in my memory. All I can remember of him were the goal line fumbles.

Looking back, Miami has had so much bad luck at the RB position.. Sammie Smith, 1st round pick in trouble with the law, and trouble holding on to the ball.. Cecil the diesel Collins breaking into a chicks home and arrested for being a peeping tom .

Mercury Morris and his drug problems . Same for Ricky Williams

Lorenzo Hampton was a 1st round pick and he stunk.. How about that Johnson guy we drafted in 98 or 99 in the 2nd round ?? He was another bust .

The list goes on and on. Cross your fingers Booker doesn't end up like another FSU back in Sammie Smith.

Yes, Overstreet is another one.. It didn't help that Marino was so bad at the play action fakes.. He also gave away the run ..

I read that Bruce Smith was on an interview saying how Marino would tell the defense they werre going to run a play.. Right after the snap Marino would turn his hips a certain way giving away if he was going to hand off or pass.. Bruce Smith said for over 10 years everyone in the league knew this about Marino.. And it's why Miami couldn't run the ball with MArino as QB.. How long didn't Miami have a 1000 yard rusher while Marino was QB ?? It was embarrassing .

Too bad Marino wasn't more techically sound .. Throwing wise he was excellent.. But his sub par body mechanics aside from throwing the ball really hurt him, and hurt Miami's chances of doing anything in the playoffs because Marino couldn't sell the run at all.. I think this is the major reason why so many backs busted during Marino's tenure.

As a running back, why would you want to play in Miami if your QB is giving the defense a 2 second head start to take a beating on you ??

John Avery. Another 1st round pick down the drain.. I better stop as I am making myself depressed at Miami's ineptitude.

So conversely, the defense always knew when Marino was about to throw...yet they couldn't stop him. He brutalized teams even when they knew he was going to throw.

As for your last paragraph, I don't think that RBs get to decide if they feel like playing or not. They are professionals and that is their job.

Sammie did, indeed suck!

Poor play + multiple goal-line fumbes = suck

Dolphin fans are so brutal. Yeah, Sammie did fumble on a few crucial moments...but does that require you to say he sucks? He's human. I'm sure if you were on a football field you couldn't even play at 1/4 of the level a football player can.

Fans all talk smack and say "this guy sucks"...blah blah blah

I would love to see you on the field so I can "boo" you and say you suck!

I can honestly say that I've never called a Dolphin player a "bust" or said they "suck" or "boo" them. There's no point to it. There is no good outcome of it. Why bother??? Yes, I have been upset or disappointed if Miami loses, but I get over it since there's more important things in life than a game of football.

These players that fans "boo" and say they "suck"..you know they have families who are at the games. They have feelings and they are human just like you. How would you like it if you were in Sammie's situation and your daughter was at the game and she heard everyone chanting "Sam-mie sucks!''??? Think about it. Real hard....

I'll never say fans can't boo or chant, but ask yourself a question before you do it. Am I helping or hurting the team?

Good to see Sammy get his life together.

Sammie was awesome at Florida State! Who cares how he did with the Fish. Plus he sold me 8 balls on the cheap cause I was a fan!

Great to read that he`s turned his life around, sounds like he`s pretty successful. He had a rough two and a half years in Miami, that`s for sure. Ironically, the guy Smith was traded for (Bobby Humphrey) was even more of a bust when he got here!
