First comes the Peyton party, then the pity party.
The Miami Dolphins don't want it to seem that way after being rejected by free agent extraordinaire Peyton Manning, but here's his basic explanation of why they can't be together.
Hey, listen, it's not you. It's me. But don't worry. You'll find someone else, someone who's just right for you.
That someone else had better be Matt Flynn, who showed up at Dolphins camp in Davie early Saturday bleary-eyed and anxious from his test drive and pressure sales job with the Seattle Seahawks.
New Dolphins coach Joe Philbin knows Flynn well from their days together in Green Bay. Maybe this won't be so bad after all if the deal gets done. Maybe with some exciting new offensive ideas and a couple of smart draft picks, this franchise will figure out how to win again.
But wait, something's not right here.
Jumping Jehosaphat, we just described the run-up to that catastrophic 2007 Dolphins season, otherwise known as Camageddon.
That time around Cam Cameron was the rookie NFL head coach. Like Philbin, he previously gained accolades as the creative coordinator of a dynamite offensive unit, only at San Diego instead of Green Bay.
The Dolphins were coming off a 6-10 season, just like now.
Trent Green, who once worked with Cameron in Washington, was the trusted veteran imported to run the new Miami offense, in the same way that Philbin is trusting Flynn now.
What's more, the Dolphins traded away their top receiver, Wes Welker, for a couple of draft picks in March of 2007. Not exactly the same as the brushoff just given to Brandon Marshall, but too close for comfort.

stupid stupid article....after 2006 we had to gamble at QB, because the alternatives were Culpepper, Harrington or Lemon. This year we seem to have someone capable (Moore) and are only looking to upgrade if possible...

And you could just as easily twist it and make it look similar to 2008 wich wasnt a disaster at all...

i sure hope so. It would be the best thing that could happen to this embarrassing and pathetic franchise..

bull****. comparing trent green to flynn? unless i miss my guess, flynn isn't prone to giving himself concussions.

If we fall far enough to get him, that means we have a really lousy team and/or Philbin's a really lousy coach...so I don't see how that can be good.

Meh, comparing Flynn to Green is irresponsible journalism . . . which the reporting down here has been exposed severly this offseason, we need to overhaul, keep a select few like Barry Jackson and dump the rest of em, time for some new blood. Philbin has tasted championsihp glory, Cameron didn't. Chambers was actually considered our #1 at the time (and was traded midseason I believe) while Welker was an upcomming slot WR that didn't reach newer heights until he got with arguably one of the top 5 greatest Qb's of all time.

The only thing that was the same was the records were 6-10.

Also after just a couple minutes of an interview, it's easy to tell Philbin is much smarter than Cam. we won't be hearing any "fail forward fast" lines or seeing assistants coaching in preseason this year.

Camageddon....LOL

There ares some vague similarities, but this staff is keeping the core of the team intact. The nucleus is very good.
Cam took a weak team, cut and traded the only good working parts he had, and then put his faith in Trent Green, who had a history of concussions. Just plain stupid.

If Philbin and Sherman take the same team that Sparano/Bowles fielded last year, I believe that we are at least 2-3 wins better.

eh... depends on how Philbin turns out. Cam proved himself to be a doofus in the Ted Ginn fiasco. Really, all he had to do was go out and say we drafted a guy that had a lot of potential and had the speed to be given the ball in a variety of different ways (which would have been fine as Ginn was used in a lot of different ways at OSU) but he said what he said and Teddy was doomed from the start here. Cam had no idea how to react to the boos at the draft party and things got worse from there.
