Well, not really the gametape. But I rewatched the CBS broadcast from Sunday, even though it was painful at times. It really was. Ouch. :shakeno:

The first half was a game where both teams couldn't get anything going on offense. The Texans couldn't get anything going because the Dolphins defense was shutting them down for the most part. They couldn't run the ball at all. The only reason they got 3 points was because Miami gave up a few big pass plays. Those came on plays where the defense tried to blitz Carr. The blitz was very ineffective. It did more damage than good.

Miami didn't have a running game in the first half either. I still don't know what it is. It seems like a combination of Ronnie running head first into crowds, and the O-line not making big enough holes to run in. I swear it seems like Ronnie needs a little guidance or something. I wish Ricky was back there with him. Maybe next season.

In the second half, it started like more of the same. But this is when the whole game came to a climax. Jason Taylor stripped the ball from Carr and ran it back to the Texan 30 YARD LINE!!! This was huge! It was the play of the game. What does the offense do? Instead of passing for the big strike, they run Ronnie off the edge for 2 yards. Huh? When the opponent is down, you drive the dagger home. They ended up not even getting one stinking first down. Ronnie came up two yards short around the 20 yard line.

Now this is where Saban goofs up. The game is 3 to 3. 3 TO 3!! Somebody has to break out. The Dolphins have the momentum with that big turnover from JT. If you go for the 4th down and get it, you get a MUCH needed TD. If you miss it, the Texans get the ball back on their own 20 like it was kicked off to them anyway. HOW CAN YOU LOSE BY GOING FOR IT??? I really felt like that was a scared move by Saban. He was playing it way too safe.

So the Dolphins get another measley field goal and go up 6 to 3. It didn't change anything about the game, except the scoreboard. On the second possession after that field goal, Carr drives down for the TD. Then, the Texan defense steps up and starts making plays all over Miami. They get another TD. It is like a whirlwind.

Finally, when Miami has the odds completely stacked against them, they drive down the field and make the Texans look pathetic. I can't understand how you can do that only when you know it is almost impossible to win. It seems like a defeatist mentality or something. They miss a 2pt conversion because Booker falls down. Booker played his worse game I have ever seen him play, BTW. Then, Miami still had the chance to recover the on-side kick and win the game. But they goofed that up like the 2pt conversion.

Everyone on this forum has pointed out what is wrong with this team. I will list them one more time to make them clear.

Here they are (in no order):

1. Saban tries to play too smart/safe in games. He needs to step out and take a chance sometimes. Stop over-thinking things. It's football!!
2. Mularkey seems out of touch with the offense. His play-calling doesn't seem to add up. Run in a pass situation or pass in a run situation.
3. Chambers and Booker are either dropping a pass or running bad routes. They aren't getting open enough.
4. Ronnie is charging head first into holes when he needs to be standing up and adjusting with his feet. I saw a few plays where he could have bounced it outside or cutback for big yards.
5. Culpepper needs to get rid of the ball quicker sometimes. Some of those sacks are his fault.
6. Our safeties have disappeared. They need to start ball hawking and making tackles more. Bell is the only guy at safety that flies to the ball.
7. Capers needs to stop calling blitzes on 3rd down all the time. They aren't working. I understand bring a safety sometimes, but Miami's defense does best on 3rd down when you let the front 4 apply the pressure.

That is 7 things that need to be fixed. I think if they fixed 3 of them Miami would start winning.

nice post i like most of it. i do though like how ronnie plays. but your right he fights so hard instead of trying to go the easy route. like around somebody with his speed.

Completely agree about the convervative approach on that turnover. Most team go for the jugular there. It's time to take the reigns off the offense and start dictating tempo.

I was thinking the same thing. After a turn-over like that, your first play from scrimmage should be a shot at the end-zone.

You sure you watched the game???

Did you not SEE the 2pt conversion pass by Ronnie being tipped by Mario Williams? Yeah - Booker falls down also. But the pass was tipped pretty well off course, so ... you have to assume it woulda been very tough to catch. Give the props to Mario for his quick hands I guess.

Like Saban said after - IF the play worked as called, everyone would have said brilliant. It didn't work so everyone is saying bad call. Of COURSE this is a designed play the Team had practiced ... it just didn't work.

I agree also about kicking the FG rather than going for on 4th Down at the Texans 30. At that point in the game, plenty of game left, we could have turned momentum big-time. All who are saying Mularkey is "too conservative" ... Oops. Nick showed he's of the same mind. :rolleyes2

my problem with what you said about ronnie is the same **** people didn't want him to do last year... remember when there was no hole hed dance and look for something cause nothing was open... instead now they've told him to just hit where the hole is supposed to be then try to adjust if that doesn't work...

at least thats how it seems to me, so which would you rather, him dancing behind the LOS and getting more negative yardage carries but maybe breaking a few 5-10 yarders, or him always at least running for positive yards by going where the play is designed?

"MOST" teams would not have gone for the TD in that situtation. In a defensive battle, or lack of offense with the game tied you take the sure thing and grab the lead, it's that simple!!! The coaching staff has been just as much to blame as anybody for these losses, but that was the correct call to make. It's easy to sit here and say......."we should have went for it on 4th down" but the fact of the matter is if they did go for it and didn't make it, and we lost by 3 then EVERYONE would be saying......"What an idiot, he should've kicked the FG"

yeah good post man but really depressing i think the main problem seems to be in the playcalling we are just not going to our players strengths. eg. zach on the blitz, he isnt going to beat 300+ pound lineman its just plain dumb.

The Dolphins main problem, as I see it, is Nick Saban. He is the new kid in the house, and the players are not buying into his system. The team comes out very flat and unergenetic, penalties, missed routes, wrong assighnments, etc....... all spells bad coaching.

Dance baby, dance. Running straight into a hole with your head down is great on the goaline or in short yardage situations. But for most of the time, Ronnie should keep his head up and use his feet to bounce laterally. Everyone knows he can put a hit on a defender. I think it is time he showed everyone how he can get up field and make people miss.

For the record, I think Ronnie is one of the only bright spots on offense right now alongside Welker. I'm just trying to point out some things he can improve on.

What irritates me most in listening to Saban is, IF we executed better, If we played a full game, If we take responsibilty more, IF IF IF IF we take better care of the coaching and less of the mouth something might be accomplished.

I had no problem with getting the 3 points. I have a problem with the particlar playcalls, mostly out of the shotgun. The defense will abuse that all day. Are we going to do that with New England? We are in trouble if we do.

What Mularky needs to get through his thick head right now is that we run the ball if it hurts, until our line can learn to put a helmet on a helmet and drive and let ronnie do the rest and if its 3rd and 6 so be it! At least it wont be 3rd and 20!

This trick play crap is screwing things up consistancy wise.

Those things are true. But it was obvious to me that they decided that a trick play for the first play of the game was highly necessary. Unbelievable. Then to play that patsy pitch out crap that was not fooling anyone.

Culpepper needs to know where his recievers are. Its obvious when he stands back there all day that he does not. I am sure he is missing wide open recievers. I dont expect DC to be perfect, but my god, you have 3 seconds, not five to get rid of it.

We should be running the ball!
