In free agency, the Miami Dolphins have signed, or traded for, a: DE, DT, LB, CB, and FS. Is it crazy to believe that this was by design hiring an offensive-minded coach? Maybe, just maybe, the Dolphins draft offense? Consider the counter-intuition…let's delve deeper.

We've been so Hellbent on fixing the defense that we've forgotten one thing: what have we done to improve the offense? Well, we lost Lamar Milller. We lost Rishard Matthews. We signed Isaiah Pead and Daniel Thomas, and a few possibilities on OL like Kraig Urbik and Jermon Bushrod. Is that enough to help the 27th ranked scoring offense in 2015? Have we forgotten the duality of offense and defense, like mind and body?

And its not like we have a "high-powered" offense!

And we've combed through free agency by acquiring Kiko Alonso, Byron Maxwell, Mario Williams, Andre Branch, Isa Abdul-Quddus, and Chris Jones. We've acquired Ifo Ekpre-Olomu off of waivers. When you consider a plan involving dozens if not hundreds of individuals in the Miami Dolphins organization, you have to be pretty clear and definitive. Goal #1 of the 2016 Miami Dolphins: acquire talent on defense in free agency.

I vote for more offense, please!

The defense is swiss cheese. Our offense needs help on the line, but otherwise there is reason to believe that a good system and a good coach will fix our offensive woes.

That is why the Dolphins should draft defense (with the exception of a RB and a lineman).

Have to agree with Broccoli. The only O in the first five rounds may be OL or RB, otherwise D will probably rule the draft. I do think the last two rounds will be on guys with potential upside on either side of the ball.

The offense is ok at worst.

The defense is fricking awful at absolute best

Gase has already stated he wants multiple backs. When you decide to run a committee, you don't commit to pouring resources into the committee. The committee exists to ease the burden of finding one 3 down RB #1 with multiple guys filling different roles.

There is NO need for the Phins to be wasting draft picks on RBs. We can find serviceability in FA.

What we DO need.... is to fix the one offensive problem we have.... OG. We need to draft someone who can start this year at LG. We have plenty of candidates for RG.

THEN, commit the rest of the draft to the Defense.

I'll make my official pick again, we need Tunsil. And I think the spot to get him is #5.

With one pick, the OL is now solidified. Not just with at LG. But now we have our Swing Tackle in either Albert or Tunsil. Let them battle it out in camp for LT. With the loser kicking to LG.

This one pick solves all of our major offensive holes. The price to get him might be too high for some. But one thing is for certain, no one on this board will worry about OL any more. RT benefits. The WRs and TEs benefit. And the RBs benefit.

There is not a single other position of need we can fill in the draft with as much short term and long term benefit.

It is time to fix the OL the right way. We need to think about the future.

I like this or trade down and pick German ifedi an OT\OG kind of guy.

Yea, we were 30th in the NFL (The NFL only has 32 teams in it) in 3rd down percentage. Why would we look for help on the offensive side of the ball? I mean, we scored a whole 19.4 points a game last season which was good enough for 27th in the NFL.

Sure, if you watched any games and saw our defense on the field for what seemed to be most of the game, you might think our offense needs help. I mean we were 30th (again, almost last) in Time of Possession last season in the NFL.

So considering we were almost last in making 3rd downs (thus, we had a lot of short drives or plain old "3 and outs") and almost last in time of possession and our defense played way too much of the game to be effective. I CAN see where some people are saying we need offensive help.

BUT

I think everyone is forgetting something. Since once again this season, our defense is again going to be on the field a lot, we should have more defensive players. Think about it. We did not and do not need over 3 WRs or more than 2 RBs. This means we can dress 3-5 (OR MORE) extra defensive players each game. That means we can rotate them more.

Because you know what they say. The best offense is a so so defense.

This is called "coach speak". I'd say the same thing if the team I now coached allowed our good RB to leave and we suck so hard we have to overpay anyone to come here and we do not have the money for that. Thus, the resigning of Daniel "All Day" Thomas which as everyone knows, opened the 3rd door of Hell....

Who forgot................
Most of the threads are us drafting Offense

who forgot................

Unfortunately for us, this turd:

As far as round one goes...if you believe Elliot is a special game changing back...then he is worth it...other than that....I don't see us drafting offense in round one.

I believe that with an upgraded defense, our offense can reach a certain set of goals for this upcoming season.

I call it the "Surge to 25th" plan.

On offense, we want to move up to only being 25th in 3rd down success rate. We want to move up to being 25th in "time of possession". We can be 25th in rushing.

And even more important, we can move up to 25th in scoring. Here is a true fact about last season. To have been 25th in the NFL, we needed to score 20.5 points a game. Wow.

I believe that if our defense can score, we can break 20 points a game this season.

Sure, call me a dreamer....

NY8123 has a phenomenal study on the 20/20 Club in VIP. Great stuff if you get the chance to read it.

I'm afraid people are being sucked into the "we have so many holes on defense" thinking that they are overlooking the simplest fix to make one side of this team potentially dominant: OG.

yes, we have a lot of holes on defense. The bigger problem is we have so many holes on defense we can't fix it in one offseason. We cah however, fix the offense. And we have the pieces to build a dominant offensive team. Strong enough to protect the defense with time of possession and scoring.

The defensive overhaul will take 2 drafts. Of which, if I were coach/GM, would be content with 1 great OL prospect and the rest defense.

Overall I my "dream" draft scenario would be landing Ramsey, Bosa or Tunsil. Ramsey will be #3, either by the Chargers or someone else jumping up to get him. Bosa is practically a perfect fit for Dallas' needs and BPA. I would be shocked if Bosa is not a Cowboy.

And that is why I think Tunsil is available at #5. I trade up involving a second round pick compensation should just about get us there. I'm not a fan of trading pics. But if I'm stuck with TB then I want his penchant for trading to at least get me a player I know makes this team complete on offense. I'm tired of watching my QB picking himself up off the ground.

Protect the Franchise.

If the best player on the board in the 2nd round is a WR, don't act shocked if Miami takes one. Unless you're 100% satisfied with the depth behind Landry and Parker. Stills? Hazel? Anyone really think we're set with them in what will be a WR-heavy offense? They may pull another Jordan Phillips and draft a non-perceived need early. Much to the bewilderment of many fans.
