Yeah, he bombed last night. Big deal. He's the face of the NBA, and has been so ever since the 2006 NBA Finals.

You don't turn into the face of the NBA by winning the slam dunk competition. You turn into the face of the NBA by being a great, and prominent, player over the course of multiple years.

When we see Dwight Howard in more commercials than Dwyane Wade, then we'll talk about Howard being the face of the NBA.

And don't get me wrong, I'm not taking anything away from Dwight. He's a monstrous player, and only getting better. Furthermore, I've got a soft spot for the Orlando Magic. But you're treading the line between "fan" and "fanboy."

D-Wade is the current face of the NBA, and will remain the face of the NBA until someone steps up and becomes as popular and prominent outside of the NBA as he is. A prerequisite for that happening is that Miami must continue to flounder for another one or two seasons.
 
How was it sad? When he lost the ball, he laughed, and just skimmed through it carelessly. Besides, he said before going in that he was rooting for Chris Paul. He didn't want to do it -- he wanted to pull out. However, per league rules, the reigning Champ is required barring injury. He won it two years straight.

But the reality is, it's beyond laughable and extremely biased if you think Dwight Howard is the face of the league. He's a GREAT player, but lol, stop overrating him. The "Face of the NBA" is not just a title, it comes with titles......Dwight Howard isn't even the best big man in the league.

Winning the dunk contest is cool and all, but it really meanings nothing in terms of basketball. Just skim through the last few winners and check their status.
