Looking back the last few years of the draft, the early sure thing OL picks were anything but a sure thing.

2006-Jets take D'Bricksahw, he has been ok, at best. I wish their fan base wish they had Jay Cutler or Matt Leinhart. This is a prime example, they got a much better OL later on, Nick Mangold. And the 2nd rd QB they took, looks shaky.

2004-Raiders take Robert Gallery, what a bad pick this was. Pretty much everyone after him was much better including 2 franchise QBs, River and Roethesberger.

Jake Long may be ok, but you can find solid OL later on, QB is far and away the most important position in sports. If Parcells and company think Matt Ryan would be a good NFL QB, he has to be the pick.

Yeah and then there are guys like Joe Thomas that completely turn a franchise around...what's your point? Matt Ryan sucks but that's besides the point, you could have Marino at QB and he wouldn't be the Marino that we know if you play him behind a crappy o-line...o-line is more important then QB, it effects both the passing and running game...

Well said. The "O-line" is everything in football, without it there is no pass or rush game.

The Browns took Joe Thomas with the 3rd pick in the 2007 draft and I think they are pretty thrilled with him so far, just saying....

Joe Thomas, Orlando Pace, Jonathan Ogden.

Its funny how Long is Joe Thomas, Pace, and Ogden and not Ferguson or Gallery. But, Matt Ryan is Leaf, Carr, or Klingler and not Manning or Palmer.

Its because Matt Ryan isnt Manning or Palmer, he is just being hyped up in an incredibly weak QB class.

The Browns also got quite lucky in 2 ways. Dolphins stupidity let a potential franchise QB fall to them, and also got lucky with Derek Anderson, you cant tell me they would have had the same season if they used CHarlie Frye the whole year, I dont care how may Jot Thomases you have. QB is the most important position on the field.

Yet Peyton Manning cant do much if he's on his *** the whole time.

This thread = silly

First round Tackles bust. First round Quarterbacks bust. First round WRs bust. So what.

Why is everyone all over Ryan? Is it because ESPN and NFL network has him both rated number 1?

you say picking OL with early pick is silly and that's ok,that's ur opinion, but i don't care who the QB is and how good or great he is,he can't and won't be able to do anything if he doesn't have a good to great OL in front of him protecting him. if he's running for his life or constantly getting sacked, what good is the QB going to do? none at all!!!! me,i say pick OL with the early pick so we can get our O-Line solidified and give Beck or whomever our QB is the protection needed to make plays and also to give our RBs the holes needed to run freely and make plays. just my opinion though.

haha exactly.

Wasting a pick on J Long is exactly that.....wasting. Every draft class is different, every year is different, this year happends to be extremely, EXTREMELY deep at the tackle position, why then, when we have 2 solid 2nd round choices, would a team with so many needs take a T so early when they can have one in the second?

Makes NO sense.

I agre ShaBam. Im not even saying necessarliy take the QB, only if Parcells feels hes worth it. Im fine with Chris Long too, just no OL with the #1

Wow

You know whats amazing? Picking an OL with the number one pick. How idiotic is that? Really? The OL is the heart of the team, basic knowledge, but taking even an Orlando Pace number one is ridiculous. This Franchise needs a new face, and that person will be Matt Ryan. If you look back on the previous drafts, great linemen were taken in the second round. Look at our own Samson Satele. We have two second round picks, and I believe whole heartedly one of them will be an OL. And with the money being paid to first picks, would you really pay an OL 30 plus mill with at least 15 in guaranteed money?? Like I said, Matt Ryan, number 12, Miami Dolphins.
