Hey guys,
I have no intentions of going to London for the Dolphins/Giants game that was stolen from us, but a co-worker who is a former New Yorker has said he might like to go and asked me, a Dolphin season ticket holder, if I could help him get tickets. I got a packet from the Dolphins in the mail yesterday and learned that if I purchased tickets to the game they would not be mailed to me, but had to be picked up at a ticket office in London, only by me with a valid ID. Now, I understand they want to prevent or reduce scalping, but I think if I purchase tickets I should have the right to give them away, sell them or wipe my butt with them if I so choose. There was an article in the Sun-Sentinal about it today and online where several replies ripping the NFL, the Dolphins, Huezinga and everyone involved.
Just wondered what the folks on finheaven had to say about it. I'm not disappointed at not making a huge profit, I wasn't going to anyway, but I'd like to defend our rights as fans, rights that seem to be ripped away from us more all the time.

Defend what rights as fans?

I don't see the problem with this at all.

They are trying to make sure that the true fans go to this game.
If you buy tickets to go, which is why you should buy tickets then you'd have no issue with this.

What they are trying to deny is all the Dolphins or Giants fans buying the tix simply to sell to brokers. Then all the people in the Europe that want to go get raped in pricing because american fans bought all the tickets with the sole motivation of selling them.

The NFL does NOT owe you a career in scalping.
THe NFL and the Dolphins do owe Dolphin fans the chance to buy tix TO GO if they want to. If you aren't going then you don't need the tickets and you have no reason to gripe about it.

The gripe I do agree with is that they don't do the same thing for Super Bowl tickets as they should.

And what career in scalping would that be? I've never sold a ticket in my life and would only purchase tickets to the London game to give to my friend at my cost. You're barking up the wrong tree, dog.

Woof Woof.

The point is that these tix are for season ticket holders use or for those fans in Europe.

If your friend isn't a season ticket holder then they weren't meant for him.

Unfortunately there's no way to guage who really is going to pass along tix to true fans through the massive amounts of people that without a doubt would buy them simply to sell off to Brokers.

IMO, if you want to be mad at a party in this be mad at the Ticket broker business. That's the industry that has screwed all this up.

Personally, I think it's great that they are taking steps to make sure fans get to see this game without getting raped on the prices.

why dont you just call the ticket office over there just tell them your situtation and see what they say

I called the Dolphins today about it. I have season tix with my brother and friends, but I'm the only one on the account. They wanna go, but won't be allowed to pick up the tickets...even though my brother has the last name as me. They did tell me I could add my brother's name to the account and they would be able to pick them up. So it ended up working out fine.

Glad you were able to find a way around it. Like I said, it's not a money-making deal for me. I just wanted to do a favor for a Bud who's a Giants fan. But we can sell our tickets to the Dolphins home games for whatever we want to, why should this London fiasco be any different?

I live in London, and I got 6 tickets and I was told they'd arrive via post 7 days before the game, so I guess that'd be like on the 21st or something like that. Probably the 22nd because mail isn't delivered on Sunday...

If that annoys you, you wouldn't like following England away from home. Our fans have to collect their tickets out in whatever country we are playing in then upon our return we have to submit proof that we travelled to the game (boarding pass, photo of us in the ground etc) or our membership will be cancelled.

IMO it's a great idea as it means the people that deserve to go can go. As you have no intention of going though I'm pretty baffled as to why you let something like this bother you? Seems to me your just moaning for the sake of it.

Baffled? Did you read my post? Dolphins fans are getting one less home game this season ... that bothers me. Even though I'm not going to the London game, I can't buy tickets and give them or sell them to someone else who would like to go ... that bothers me. Does my Giants fan co-worker "not deserve to go?" Moaning for the sake of it? A lot of South Floridians are pissed off about this. I say if Brits want to see NFL football they should come to the U.S.A., not the other way around. 'Nuff said!

Well imagine we made the superbowl and Miami were allocated 10,000 tickets. These then went on-sale to season ticket holders who could buy 2 per season ticket, I imagine you would be pretty pissed off if you missed out as other season ticket holders had snapped up tickets to give to their mates.

Your season ticket entitles you to a seat, not your mates. If they want one they have to try their luck along with everyone else.

In the scenario you present, I would not be mad. I would get tickets for myself. And the seat my season ticket entitles me to is mine to do with as I please ... sit it in myself, give it to someone else or sell it to someone else. And the day they play the Super Bowl in London I'll never watch another NFL game, not even on the telly.
