It was easy to see who the star of the show was at Sunday's reunion of Minnesota's 1982 Big Ten championship team.
Detroit Pistons coach Flip Saunders, an assistant coach on that team, received a rousing ovation and was serenaded with chants of "We want Flip! We want Flip!" when he was introduced with other members of the team during a timeout in the second half of Minnesota's loss to Ohio State.
The Gophers marked the 25th anniversary of that championship team by trotting out coach Jim Dutcher, Saunders and players including Darryl Mitchell, Randy Breuer and Trent Tucker at the 12:00 mark of the second half.
The fans in attendance were eagerly awaiting Saunders' introduction, and heartily welcomed him back to "The Barn," urging Saunders to come back home and rescue the struggling Gophers next season.
"It's good to be back," said Saunders, who was able to attend because the Pistons were off for the NBA's All-Star weekend. "I wish the team would have won."
