unless Monroe wants mo money and he knows he can get it from Miami. It takes two to tango. There is a part of me that says Monroe being signed along with Pitta means we could have a shot at a very good player at LT or TE at 19 so them signing a more expensive guy works to our advantage in another way.

I just want whatever ensures that we don't waste another 1st round draft pick on a lineman.

PLEASE sign someone in FA and keep the option to draft someone who can help move the chains.

I honestly don't get why people are so hell-bent on not taking a lineman with a first round pick. Because they're not a skill position means it's a bad pick? Hardly.

The Baltimore Sun reports the Ravens are not expected to franchise tag free agent LT Eugene Monroe.
Monroe is Baltimore's highest remaining priority with Dennis Pitta signed, but would cost $11.65 million if tagged and isn't a candidate to be franchised. The Ravens have been in active talks with Monroe, but no deal is imminent. Monroe, 26, is expected to command more guaranteed money than Pitta and isn't open to giving the Ravens a hometown discount. Rotoworld ranks Monroe as the top left tackle available this offseason.

Value wise I prefer Collins, but getting one of the best young tackles in the game would be huge. Sounding like there's a good chance he'll reach the market.

But but I thought we were getting our panties wet over someone that wasn't going to
hit the market?

I would would guess if not signed by next week he will be franchised. They may take their chances with the draft but I doubt it. Ravens gave up a 4th and 5th pick for monroe so Tag it will be.

Thank you! Duh, but apparently not, as most posters in this thread seem to think Monroe was lock to get the tag. Again, I'm not sure Monroe is as good as everyone here thinks he is. I've heard him described as adequate. The Jags certainly didn't think much of him. When posters repeatedly cite the Ravens giving multiple picks for him, it's was only a 4th and a 5th, for crying out loud. Not even in the same ball park as what we got for, say, Vontae Davis. He then played well, apparently, for a team with a miserable offense and a terrible running game.

I imagine they're going to try hard to resign him, for obvious reasons, but they can't afford the luxury of tagging a player that may not be worth that kind of money when they have so many needs to fill yet.

I think we'll get a shot at him, but if it takes Jake Long money to sign him, forget about it. It's not worth it.

It wasn't just some of the posters in this thread that thought they might use the franchise tag, check out the NFL article I linked earlier in the thread. We will find out soon enough.

True, but I don't know that guy and, besides, all he said was "he suspects" it will happen, meaning he's got no hard info on that at all. Does he have a good track record at all?

Not sure of his track record but there were other articles from Baltimore saying some similiar things initially. I do believe they would obviously prefer to sign him long-term and not have to use the tag. Props to South Beach and Fear the Beard though for bringing up the other side of the coin

I believe tomorrow is the last day to use the tag.

I'm willing to bet Vcash @ 2 to 1 odds that Monroe is not tagged. Any takers?

I don't think the Ravens would have wasted a draft pick for a possible run at an SB with no intention of re-signing him. I pretty much knew he's a lock to be resigned, unless he underperformed. Ravens IMO got a great player.

we could have got him but that's hat diff between smart teams and our GM. They trade for Monroe we trade for washed up Mckinnie
