Obviously we have seen improvements in both areas. More than we could have ever anticipated. I actually think we are getting better throughout the season on both sides of the ball, and excited about where could end up by playoffs.

My wonder is this... how much has McDaniel kept in the bag and not shown so he can save packages and play calls for our tougher schedule stretch?

I imagine he has something in mind for the 49ers defense that has not been on tape this year. We also know how much the Patriots prepare and how important it would be to break tendencies and catch them off guard. Thoughts?

I guarantee he's absolutely got something in store for every defense he faces. I personally don't think it's as simple as holding plays back. Everything that I've seen so far with McD is purposeful. It's actually quite impressive how quick his offense has improved. Not just by the numbers but by mismatches and pre-snap motion. It's seems to have purpose in everything they execute from alignments, pre-snap motion, blocking assignments, ect. It's no wonder it took some time to limit pre-snap penalties with all the moving pieces, it's been quite impressive considering how hard it has been for defenses to make correct adjustments considering what they see from an alignment or motion stand point. The minute they think they have the correct pre-snap look bam the offense finds their weakness. And Tua has been damn near perfect in his progressions, and taking what the defense gives him. One thing I absolutely believe with McD is that everything he does has purpose I guarantee he questions why a scenario may work rather than well in theory it's sound, he addresses every scenario he can think of before spending time on implementation. Real damn impressive.

I'm curious how many variations on fake field goals and PAT's are in the playbook

I wouldn’t be surprised if there were chapters of plays based around all the different players you could have throw and/or catch a pass.

He seems to have more than one scheme prepared to counter what the opossing D is doing.

Waddle and Hill are having an "off day", let's hit every other receiving option both must've been changing to other people's jerseys in the medical tent, cuz we all know Tua is only performing well due to them being so "Alabama open", like Sherfield was during his TD.

17 games. EVERY game can affect playoff chances. I think if Mcd thought he could have won one of the 3 losses, he would have run some of those 'special' plays. If, in fact, he has a number of those plays (I think he does), using one of them to pull out a win would be no big deal. Thus, he either has no special plays, only one or two, or decided not to use one (negligence). And I'm a BIG Mcd fan.

I agree in general. However, one of my pet peeves is his seeming disinterest in attacking weaknesses. For example, the opponent's starting CB goes down. It's almost SOP for the OC to test the sub. Not Mcd.
I agree he has been patient and committed to players when they were making mental mistakes early and it seem to be paying off. And it's a pleasure to see the O come out on the 1st series and actually look prepared.

In theory you're not wrong to initially feel that way because it's easy to assume that we aren't attacking said individual players. However, the scheme in itself has put extra pressure on those players with the multiple plays being called from the same allignment or so much pre-snap motion. How many times with a staring corner being down have we seen man coverage..Minnesota.. no Tua. I get what your are saying in general, but I can't remember scenarios in which we failed to attack a defenses weakness since the Pittsburgh game.

My read on McD is that he's been thinking about and designing plays in his spare time for more than a decade. They won't all work, of course. And they won't all fit with the current talent. But my guess is that he has years of plays he hasn't had a chance to try.

This is Unrelated to your post but I want to say it anyways. We would have crushed Minnesota with Tua

I think skylar was on his way to beating them too before he left

I’m a fan
I’m sold but he needs to stop with the cute trickery plays when our offense is already rolling
No need for it. Use those plays when we’re stagnant or behind and you wanna try and light a spark
It almost feels as if he himself is trying to get noticed or trying to put his own personal stamp on a drive
If its already working stop trying to fix it

Agree w both takes. The Vikings did zero in that game. 7, 3 and outs. We had over 100 penalty yards and beat ourselves senseless. That’s the game I want back

It has a purpose…everything he does is setting other stuff up. He’s doing live trial and error…just gotta give it time.
