Reggie Bush, Dolphins

Since he was drafted second overall in 2006, Bush has always been looked upon as an underachiever. He had never played a full season or rushed for more than 581 yards in a single year. The Saints tried to utilize Bush in specific formations and positions on the field, but he never seemed to show a level of consistency.
When the Dolphins signed Bush and drafted Daniel Thomas, they envisioned a “Thunder and Lightning” tandem. However, when Thomas caught the injury bug, Bush was given the opportunity to start in all of the 15 games in which he appeared.
Reggie continued to display his big play capability, but he was forced to mold himself to provide the Dolphins offense with a complete ground game. For the first time in his career, Bush displayed a comfort in attacking defenses north and south. More handoffs created more rhythm as a runner; Miami’s use of various play-calls (misdirection, traps and sweeps) played to Bush’s advantage. Contrary to his prior reputation, Bush was more physical to and through the line of scrimmage.
With opportunities finally coming to Bush, he was able to register five yards per carry and record his first 1,000-yard rushing season.

Reggie for a 6th and Amaya was an awesome trade. The guy finally got a chance to prove himself and did VERY well. (5.0 yard per carry = well done) At 26 years old he still has 4 more very good years. I think we should give him an extension 1/2 way thru this year if he keeps it up.

First year EVER the phins have had a 1k WR and a 1k RB in the same season. Who would have thunk it right?

I was a doubter, now i am a believer.

We didn't even give up a pick. We swapped sixth round picks, I believe. It was a good trade.

Man the lockout really screwed DT, never gave him a full chance to recover with 2 a days and concentrated work loads being pushed on him. I expect this whole team to look so different after a full offseason to run, lift, and study. Can't wait!

I & many knew Reggie was that good ... BUT ...

I & many thought Reggie would get injured & have "half a season of games & stats"

Sure hope Reggie can stay healthy & put up those "work horse" stats many years to come!!

Looked to me like Reggie was still building up steam & coming on stronger!! Go Reggie!!

bring back slaton too

Agree with this one... we saw little of him, but the little I did, I thought he exploded to the hole and had great forward lean. Also thought he was better on the few kick returns he had as opposed to Gates... he wasn't tentative. Bring him back.

Depending on the offence they want to run, I think we are going to be ok with Bush/Thomas/Hilliard/Slaton/Clay.. use FA/Draft on other spots.

I honestly think we over reached for a RB (Daniel Thomas) in the 2nd round, the free agents we picked up like Larry Johnson and Steve Slaton are better equiped to be a #2 RB. I figured since we drafter Daniel Thomas so high we had no choice but to force him into the line up as much as possible to justify the selection.

Lex Hilliard needs to be cut, that guy has been HORRIBLE... only if we need a backup FB which a spread offense doesn't need more than 1 FB anyway.

funny you mention him. he was actually on our coaching staff as assistant WR coach until the Redskins plucked him away a few weeks ago. i guess you mean Lex Hilliard.

I think we need to give Thomas a full off season and season before we can start calling him an over-reach or a bust. although I do agree that what little we saw in his rookie year was far from we hoped. I would be quite happy to stay pat at RB going into next season - Bush, Thomas, Slaton and Clay. I agree with Hilliard being someone that we could upgrade with a late draft pick. However I do not forsee us making any kind of free agency moves at the RB position this year, with a QB being the most likely move in that phase.
