There is a lot of material out there for Dolfans to digest regarding who Miami will pick with the overall first pick if they are unable to trade out of the first round selection in the 2008 NFL Draft.

General consensus with experts who make a living at prognosticating all things related to the NFL Draft predict the Dolphins will either select DE Chris Long from Virginia or QB Matt Ryan form Boston College. To widen the net, we can assume the Dolphins will pick one of the following six players who many consider the top of this years class;

In alphabetical order:

Glenn Dorsey-DT-LSU-6’2†316lbs
Sedrick Ellis-DT-USC-6’1â€-305lbs
Chris Long-DE-Virginia-6’4â€-275lbs
Jake Long-OT-Michigan-6’7â€-315lbs
Darren McFadden-RB-Arkansas-6’2â€-210lbs
Matt Ryan-QB-Boston College-6’5â€-224lbs

Assuming this happens according to projections, who might Miami target with their two picks in round two and first pick in round three?

I have compiled a list of the following top players that may be available for Miami with their two second round picks(#32 #57)second round picks and third round pick(#64). They pick #57 in round two due to the WR Chambers trade to San Diego. So from the list below, there is a very strong chance that two maybe even three of these players will become Miami Dolphins via picks #32 & #57 in round two, and # 64 in round three

My methodology for the following player list had three steps.

1.I started with Mel Kipers latest Mock draft for the first round which came out a couple of days ago.
2.I created a list from Scouts Inc of who rank the top 70 collegiate athletes heading into this years list.
3.I bumped the two list together and the result created the following players from the Scouts Inc list who will not be selected in the first 31 picks according to Mel Kipers latest mock draft.

I apologize for the format not being easier to read. Players are listed in order of rankings of best available athlete. Player name, position, height, weight, school, scouts inc grade, position rank, and overall rank are provided for each player.

Odds are strong the Dolphins will draft three of the following players in rounds two or three…

I will be the first to admit this is a genuine crapshoot of a list as we all know anything can happen on draft day, so this is about as scientific as one can get for such a broad subject. It gives us a starting point however...

cliff avril is a pretty decnet pass rusher needs to work on rush defense but dustin keller very good tightend just needs to wrok on blocking he could be used liek a dallas clark he has the speed and hands

I read a little blurb the other day about NTs in past drafts. It said that if you need one, you better get him before the end of the 3rd round, because they're usually gone by then because they're usually not that many of them.

where in the hell is Shawn Crable OLB/DE out of Michigan?????????????

Of all the LB's in this class, this is who Parcells is channeling into,or at least he should

If we pass on M.Ryan at # 1, I'll take Brian Brohm or Joe Flacco with #32. Would love to see a 3-way competition at QB with one of them and Beck/McCown.

Also like Quentin Groves, Antoine Cason, John Carlson, Dustin Keller, and Mike Pollak. Though not sure any of them will be there at 2B.

3rd rnd - Jordy Nelson

ok...and then what? you will have a former starter and 2 2nd round pick QBs on your team. Why would you do that?

How about we just stick with Beck this year.

I have been looking at the possibilities as well (with no scientific analysis of course) and have no idea how this draft will go. I will say that based on the deepest cuts we have made so far (and the lack of pick ups during FA) along the OL, I firmly believe that our 1st rounder will be spent on an OT, but it may not be Long as everyone suspects. I believe that BP could go after Ryan Clady. Why? Because Long is at home at RT but could make the transition to LT if needed while Clady has been at LT (but can also play at RT) and according to some experts, he could be an All-Pro NFL LT. Another reason I think that the Phins could pick Clady over Long is that while Jake is a bruiser as a run blocker, he is a bit stiff and has trouble with his lateral movement as a pass blocker. Clady appears to excel in both areas. This, of course, is just my OPINION and has no bearing on what will actually happen on draft day (so keep the insults to yourself).

Having said that, I would also not be surprised to see Bill go after a QB and another OL in the second round (remember we not only need starters along our OL we need depth as well). The following is my projection of the first two rounds.

1. Ryan Clady OT
2a. Joe Flacco QB
2b. Sam Baker OT

After this, it's a toss-up. In all other areas in which we have made cuts, we have made an effort to refill through FA and seem to have done a decent job. According to our current roster, our OL has had the deepest cuts so far with minimal acquisitions. Out of all of our OL from last year, we are left with the following.....

V. Carey LT
Drew Mormino G
Samson Satele C
Julius Wilson LT

our FA OL acquisitions so far are as follows....

Justin Smiley G
Ikechuku Ndukwe G

If they bypass JLong then the next stop regarding LT is Sam Baker/Anthony Collins at #32. Clady at #1? No way, unless it's some kind of maneuver to get the #1 pick signed for reasonable money. The more that I think about it the more that Sam Baker or Anthony Collins makes sense at #32, assuming that we pass on JLong and don't trade out of the #1 slot.

My wish list:

round 1 - Chris Long DE Virgina
round 2a - Dan Connor ILB Penn State
round 2b - Antho Collins OT Kansas
round 3 - Andre Woodson QB Kentucky

Where is Josh Barrett?, ASU Safety.....here is who I think we will go with:

1. Jake Long
2. Limas Sweed
3. Josh Barrett

yea i like this mock alot but the only thing i would change is Jake Long with Chris long but if we do get Jake long i would be happy but having Jake long/ or Chris long and Limas Sweed with the 32nd and Josh Barrett with the 57th pick i think would be an awsome first day

I really would like Jake Long if Parcells/Ireland is sure he could be the LT for 10-12 years. I like guys like Curtis Lofton, Lawrence Jackson (quite possibly as an OLB), Carl Nicks, Cliff Avril and Chilo Rachal in the 2nd round.
