This is moving too slow, but here's some news. WR's we probaly can't sign amoung them. Mike Jones as a backup LB may be worth looking at.

Salary-cap casualties
(June 3, 2002) -- Early June signifies a time when several teams release players in an effort to conserve salary-cap space. The names often include seasoned veterans; long-time 49ers wide receiver Jerry Rice was the big name on last year's list.

The following players were released:

JUNE CUTS
Team Player The scoop
Jamal Anderson, RB Lingering injuries and the addition of Warrick Dunn and first-round draft choice T.J. Duckett made Anderson the odd-man out in Atlanta's crowded backfield.

Antonio Freeman, WR In one offseason, Favre lost two of his favorite targets (the other being Bill Schroeder, who signed with the Lions). Expect Freeman to land on his feet while Terry Glenn assumes his post in Green Bay's receiving corps.

Keenan McCardell, WR A six-year stint in Jacksonville ends as a chance to play for a new team begins. McCardell hasn't missed an NFL game since 1998.
Hardy Nickerson, LB Has 88 tackles and three interceptions, but no sacks, in 2001.

Mike Jones, LB Kendrell Bell's amazing rookie season at inside linebacker paved the way for this release.

Bills | Fina Let Go - posted at KFFL (http://nfl.kffl.com)
14:05 PT: BuffaloBills.com reports that the Buffalo Bills have released OT John Fina.

Sorry Dolphin39, missed your early post.

I thought by now we'd have a pretty good list of the releasees.

Herman Moore

Positives on Herman Moore
1 Will probably take Vet minimum
2 Former all pro who may have something to prove like Searcy
3 Will be on grass
4 Could fill in for Orande on his bad toe days
5 Could help in development of Chambers

Since we won't get any of the top 3 WR's available except possibly Freeman, I'd much rather try Moore than Westbrooke.

I agree 100% Bottle Nose. He would have to sign for the vet. minimum due to his health problems, and still has a few years left in him. I think this would be a good gamble very similar to the Searcy one, if he comes back he could be a helluva pickup.

Jaguars | Talking With Westbrook, But - posted at KFFL (http://nfl.kffl.com)
21:22 PT: The Florida Times-Union reports the Jacksonville Jaguars were talking to free agent WR Michael Westbrook (Redskins), but its uncertain if they will sign him. Since he has little leverage on the market, though, he would likely fit into the Jaguars price range.

Re: Herman Moore

we're OK at WR unless we cut someone. We have CC and 3 vet. WRs as well as Ogden and some youngsters. The only way we should sign a WR is if they will start opposite CC or are a great PR and other McCardell none of those guys fit the bill.

Since when did the Jags have enough cap room to try to negotiate to sign anyone? They released McCardell and Nickerson, but still

Would love to get this guy:

The Saints are going to wait until Tuesday to cut linebacker Keith Mitchell, whom they told last week that he would be a free agent.

and I agree, how could the jags complete for the services of anyone and not keep a receiver like Keenan..

Giants | Parker Released - posted at KFFL (http://nfl.kffl.com)
10:54 PT: Giants.com's Michael Eisen reports the New York Giants have released OLG Glenn Parker.

Supposedly Parker is hurt and will not play in 2002 - so no interest in him from a Fins perspective.
