Dolphins Homer
Well, I was hoping to hold this off until after the season, but I am bored. :) So, I figured I would take a look at our roster and figure out who will most likely be gone and why. Feel free to add your opinions or add players that you see gone as well.
GONE:
Sage Rosenfels, QB.
I think he gets more money to be a backup elsewhere. He has to know that after his comeback victories and still not getting another chance that his time here is limited.
Travis Minor, RB.
Quite frankly, he isn't needed here. Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams and Sammy Morris are ahead of him on the depth chart at RB. Plus, Welker and Gilmore at the minimum fill his duties on special teams. Look for him to play elsewhere in 2006.
David Boston, WR
The experiment is over. We gave him another shot and he came up lame again. No need to fill a roster spot with, at this point, a player who can't stay healthy. I wish him the best and more than likely, he ends up somewhere on a vet. min. salary.
Joe Berger, G
Uhhh, he hasn't done much but give up a sack. He can, and will be replaced by someone else.
Stockar McDougle, G
Quite possibly the biggest dissapointment from our FA signing period. I really thought that this one year deal and a chance to start would fire him up. Add to that that Hudson Houck couldn't seem to get through to him and you can throw him the heck out of Miami A.S.A.P.
Josh Shaw, DT
Don't worry, he will be cut and brought back multiple times next season. Just don't unpack your bags Josh...
Keith Traylor, DT
I would love to have him back. However, he seems to feel he won't be welcomed back and if he is getting that vibe, me thinks someone told him that. I am sure Saban knows what is best for his team, but keeping Traylor seems like a good idea. I oculd see him signing with Buffalo if he moves on though.
Jeff Zgonina, DT
Again, a bubble player. He has done adequate when called upon, but with the emergence of Manny Wright and the return of Vickerson next year, he will be squeezed out. I am hopeful he remains a free agent in case we need some veteran help down the stretch. He won't be though.
Eddie Moore, LB
He wil be let go, and promptly injure himself leaving the facility. He can't leave soon enough for me.
Junior Seau, LB
Great player, great leader but time to move on. I really think he has helped Crowder get to where he is and I would LOVE to see him end his career back in San Diego and then come back to us as a LB coach in 2007.
Reggie Howard, CB

Eddie Jackson, CB
When you get pulled in FAVOR of Reggie Howard, you should know you suck. Actually, I could see Jackson sticking around because he seems to do pretty well on special teams but I want him away from the defensive backfield.
Well, there you have it. Others may go including: McKinney, McIntosh, Madison, Schulters etc. but I felt that the players listed above were the most obvious and will probably the areas all of us agree on need work in the future.
Players like Traylor, Seau and Zgonina will be missed but they will, or already have, been replaced with cheaper, YOUNGER alternatives. It should make our defense faster and more dangerous in the long run, assuming our draft picks continue to improve.
