I originally posted a version of this in the "interesting cuts" thread but I think a discussion about who the Dolphins might be interested (or should be interested) in putting in a claim for deserves it's own thread.

In no particular order...

WR Aldrick Robinson. We were all over this guy in the pre-draft process. He's a dynamic, experienced deep threat and has upside as a return man. This guy would be my #1 priority pick up of the cuts that I've seen. He would replace Marlon Moore instantaneously. The problem is he almost certainly won't make it to us.

Return man/WR Tim Toone. Toone was the top return specialist to come out a year ago (along with Trindon Holiday, who was also cut). I know the Dolphins were interested in him in the draft process that year. But the fact is, if you're interested in Toone, why cut Livas? An unlikely claim.

RB DuJuan Harris. An interesting cut by the Jags considering they put Rashad Jennings on injured reserve. The guy has talent, though. Liked what I saw from him in the preseason.

TE Nathan Overbay. Not a great receiver but probably better than Mastrud at this point. Formerly of the Bucs, he caught a TD against us the other night.

TE Lee Smith. A throwback blocking tight end who basically doubles as another offensive tackle. He's not a receiving threat, obviously, but he would free up Fasano to be used as a receiver, which I think would be far better than Mastrud being in that role. Guys like Smith -- blockers -- are where we should probably be looking for our next tight end. Forget getting an athletic guy (edit: other than in a trade). Those guys have jobs. Find a guy you can use to substitute for Fasano as a blocker. Just my opinion.

RB Brandon Saine. I was not a huge buyer on Saine coming out of Ohio State but he does have some pure running talent, which is something Lex Hilliard lacks. Carrying only three running backs seems unlikely to me.

DE/OLB Daniel Te'o Nesheim. A scrappy pass rusher I liked in college. He was a SACKSEER darling when he came out. For what it's worth, I don't expect a claim for Nesheim, who's been injured a lot his first two years IIRC. This is more like wishful thinking.

SS Shiloh Keo. Probably too slow to make it as a full time safety, but is just a smart, smart player with good feet. Would probably make a dynamite special teams player.

WR Manny Arceneaux. He was the hotshot CFL player the Vikings won the auction for last year. Big and has speed. Can make some tough catches. Has some similar attributes physically to Wallace but has more experience and seasoning. Worth a shot.

I haven't poured over the lists but these are guys that stuck out on the first pass. No linemen in particular stuck out to me (Artis Hicks is a name I've seen a couple of place but I'm not familiar with him) but my depth of knowledge on the offensive line isn't as good as it is at other positions.

Great effort and research. Props.

Great job. Reality is, our projected-7.5-win Roster is not very talented, so upgrades are a very viable option!!

I'm not very familiar with them. Which ones have the talent ... to take the Roster Spot of any of our guys who have shown some promise, earning their Roster Spots?

Durn, no linemen!! lol

Besides QB, why are we not very talented? Maybe we don't have great depth, but saying a ridiculous statement like this is making you look like....

You do know that Nate Overbay was on our team just last year. On and off the practice squad.

Les Smith was clearly outplayed by Will Yeatman out of ND during the preseason. He even got time with the first team offense. I would be okay with either one if this team is looking for a blocking specialist.

I kinda expecting us to claim either Yeatman or Smith since its a need area and we play NE Monday night.

As would I. Like I said in my original post, I just don't expect us to find even a moderately talented receiving tight end on the waiver wire (edit: a trade, of course, is a different animal). The smart play to me seems to be to go with a blocker and use Fasano as the receiver.

I think you just answered your own question, BOLDED above ... that's what we're talking about.

Facts are ... two 7-9 seasons & looking down the barrel of "our projected-7.5-win Roster", our O-Line, our "We-want-Orton" QB, resurrected after 3 preseason games, poor +/- turnover ratio, Special TEams redo, Rookie RB, etc.. Yikes!! lol

JerryD Confucious says ... Hope for the best & plan for the worst!! Let's upgrade!! lol

And thanks ... the FACTS ARE what I'm talking about, no predictions/illusions!! 'Talented-Team projected 7.5-win Three-Peat' is an Oxymoron!! ... I didn't project it, Vegas did!! Just laid out the facts.

No Dorin Dickerson or DeAndre McDaniel Magoo?

Dickerson is a really interesting specimen but like hooshoops said in the "interesting cuts" thread, he's basically a man without a position in the NFL. His lack of lateral quickness prevents him from being a good enough tight end convert, imo. He's basically a straight ahead athlete only, sort of like Taylor Mays but as a WR/TE convert. A 4.8 speed guy like Zach Miller can become a dynamic seam threat because he has really good lateral quickness and because he can negotiate the wash inside. Dickerson doesn't really have that. He's just fast, which is very much an overrated quality for a tight end to have.

I didn't see that McDaniel had been released but I like him also. Got knocked down big time in the draft for his speed and the thought that he was really only a run defender, but at one time he was thought of as a 2nd rounder at worst. He's definitely an interesting player. Good instincts and awareness, for sure.

I agree with you on Dickerson. But dude has skill.

Mcdaniel got cut last week. Speed is a overrated factor on prospects. He was a all american S.
