TRENT GREEN, QB, MIAMI
After an impressive four-year run that included three consecutive 4,000-yard seasons, the two-time Pro Bowler struggled when he came back from a major head injury last season. He just didn't seem to have the same rhythm and timing, and his indecisiveness in the pocket resulted in several poor throws and interceptions.
Now in Miami and surrounded by a weaker offensive cast, he may not have enough weapons to return to the elite level he was at a few years ago.

yes he is on the decline, and yes KCs offense of year's past is overall better than this current miami offense. these things are known. question: does this writer think we're bringing green in to be our franchise qb?

probably... Giving a player a new lease often brings the best out of them! Not to mention the mentor to a franchise QB (I hope).

Green had a great Oline in KC and WR but what he did not have was D that could stop any any body. Now he has a D that can not only help stop the other team but will be able to up points to help out too. He is knocking on 40 and he got his bell really rung last year I think this year he will be back to his old numbers.

I think Trent will surprise us. The change in scenery for one, and I think he really understands and believes in the system we will run. This will also be very condusive to everyone else buying into the system and being on the same page. Trent will probably not be a Probowl QB but that isn't what we need. We need a leader, who will be poised and not give the ball away. Thats what he will do, and thats why we will contend for a playoff spot late in the year. Will we get in? Maybe, maybe not. I do think games 14, 15, and maybe even 16 we will still be in the playoff picture.

The writer says that he doubts Green will ever return to be one of the "elite" QB's in the league, but we obviously weren't expecting him to be when we brought him in. As long as he is above average, I think we will have gotten a good return in that trade. I'm not expecting anymore 4000 yard seasons from the guy, all I'm looking for is a something a little better than what Gus Frerotte gave us and I'll be happy.

I agree with the previous post. Green may never be the quarterback he was a few years ago, but he should be better than anything thing we have had over the past few seasons. As long as he doesnt turn the ball over and gives us a good chance to win most games I would be happy. Hopefully Beck will be ready by 2008.

He sustained a pretty severe head injury, but I feel his health should be better than what we got from DC. :) If he comes close to 4,000 yards than we got a steal.

I know I was a bit pessimistic on Green at first due to the horrid season and injury he had last year, but there is something I had not taken into account... The system that Green had those Pro-bowl and 4000 yard season in is very similar to what Cam has... and NOTHING like what Herm Edwards instituted last year when he arrived in KC. He indecisiveness and poor play wer more likely due to being thrown into a system he was not comfortable with than anything else... and this makes much more sense as to why KC wanted to get rid of him. It's similar to why the Dolphins want to get rid of DC... he just doesn't work well in this system, where Green has proven that he does.

Edwards played a major role in Greens lack of production when he came back. When green went down he turned KC into the 2002 Miami dolphins circa Larry Johnson. When green came back the O had a different identity and philosophy.

While not possessing the gifts he once had, I am pretty confident that with his familiarity with this offense, Cam the O-meister calling the plays, and some added speed in the likes of L. Booker, David Martin, and T. Ginn at least appearing dangerous to other teams, Green can be nominally better than Gus Frerotte was for us....and that's all we need to get us to the play offs. Our defense, better than last year with Joey Porter and Bell starting from day one, and special teams, much better with Ginn and Booker adding the speed that Welker only dreamed of having, is the backbone of this team. If Green passes for 2500-2700 yards, and passes for 22-24 TDs, with a low INT ratio, he'll be doing his job. Those numbers are his average per season when he played for more than ten games .

I disagree with respect to KC's offense. He had Gonzalez and Holmes/Johnson and that's it. His WR's were average to below average.
In Miami he will have many more options to distribute the ball to. I think CC is going to have a big yr and Booker will be his usual productive self. Ronnie Brown will make an impact with the anticipated improvement of the O-line as will Lorenzo Booker IMO.
BTW, there is no real evidence that Green is on the decline since he made the pro bowl his last full season. Please name any player that misses 8 weeks of the season and comes back as good as before with all their timing down? CC had a concussion 4 yrs ago against Denver and when he came back he was a shell of his former self the remainder of the season and it had nothing to do with his age.

Excellent observation which most people forget about. Green didn't injure his shoulder so I don't see why he can't have a season like he had in 2004 or 2005.

What great WR's did Green play with at KC? Gonzalez is a TE.

Heck, even average QB play would be good change for us.
