-Henne looked great. He was accurate, decisive, confident, and at times like Bush said "on fire". I did notice that the defense mainly played man coverage and many times didn't shade Marshall at all allowing for Marshall to easily win his battles. Henne took advantage of that. I would have liked to have seen more zone coverage to see how Henne dealt with it as he has really struggled with that type of coverage in the past.

-Sean Smith couldn't handle Marshall in single coverage. He was burned for a long 30 yard TD down the sideline and in a deep square in route in the middle of the end zone against BM. Another day, another roasting of Sean Smith, this time by BM.

-Vontae was the player of the game on defense. He was the only one who shut down Marshall one on one batting away a couple of balls. Vontae also jumped a Clyde Gates slant route and almost picked it off.

-Reggie Bush will be a BIG TIME weapon on this team. He is uncoverable on check downs if the defense doesn't shade him. He had Dansby isolated and caught the ball in stride over the middle and just exploded for what would have been a 30 yard gain. Reggie will take a lot of heat off of Henne and will make defense think twice about LB blitzes. Go ahead Jets, I dare you to send those LB blitzes now. Bush also surprised me with the way he hits the hole. He slithers through the slightest opening and is a threat to get past the second level on any run. He just needs to get the opportunities here as he didn't get enough in NO.

-Jason Taylor still has it. His pass rush from the edge is still elite. I just hope the Dolphins don't overuse him and only have him come in on 3rd downs. JT and Wake with Odrick and Starks will be one hell of a pass rush on 3rd and long.

-Pouncey looked solid today. I noticed the middle the O-line was getting great push on running plays.

-The offensive system looks NOTHING like last year. I thought I was watching the Pats offense out there. Lots of pushing the ball down the field from all types of spread formations. This offense has an attack mentality at all times. The key is going to be how well they pass protect. Even the check downs to Reggie gets him the ball on the move. I also noticed the offense doesn't have many comeback routes. Instead lots of routes designed to get the receiver the ball in position to gain yards after the catch much like a west coast offense.

-Daniel Thomas keeps looking better and better after every practice. He is doing a better job of keeping his pad level down and his vision has been much better than what he showed the first couple of practices. He is showing nice burst through the hole. I already see him as an upgrade from Ronnie.

Nice...how was reshad jones?I heard he played well but I would like to know different perspectives point of view..am I the only one who thinks we can win up to 11 games this yr?I understand the bitter taste from the previous 7-9 seasons but I believe we are closer than given credit 4...we were 11-5 just 2 yrs ago.we have gotten much better depth wise since then.I think we have a realistic shot.I think henne is goin to turn the corner this yr

I'm curious about Lydon Murtha, the beat writers seem to think he is holding up well subbing for Jake Long at LT, Omar Kelly seems to think Murtha has a very solid chance to be the starting RT, when Long returns!!!

None of the safeties made any plays. Reshad was late to read a pass to Clay down the field in between a LB and him. However, from my overall observations of watching several practices Reshad looks better than Clemons, but not by much.

Hey whats going on in here? I hope Im not hearing optimism!! I agree with you guys and Im really excited to see what Henne can do this year with a capable coordinator. Our offense was so dull and predictable last year, even my gf was calling plays before they happened. Then she would ask atleast once a game "How come when the QB starts doing good they take him out and give it to that Brown guy? That never works!!" she knows next to nothing about football btw

And this I like.

Thanks for the recap.

was jason taylor just beating colombo or was he working over other tackles??? how bout koa misi...any pass rush???

nolan carroll thoughts???

chad henne the numbers sound great but if it was all man to man and no shell and zone coverages which are where he struggled mightily last year i don't think we can really get a read on how much/if he's truly improved

JT was putting pressure mainly from the right side going against Murtha. You can still see he has elite burst coming around the edge. Koa had a couple of nice pressures as well.

Nolan Caroll looks like the same Nolan as last year. You see times where he looks ok and times when he gets roasted. There was a play where the offense ran Gates deep and a deep square out by Marshall (from the slot) on the same side of the field. Gates had Nolan beat by at least 2 yards but Henne instead threw to Marshall for a nice 15 yard completion. If Henne would have thrown to Gates it would have been an easy 70 yard TD.

so cameron wake wasn't killing whoever he lined up against??? did you see any extra help given wakes way??? ie chipped by a rb out of the backfield or the te stayin in to help out???

"Even the check downs to Reggie gets him the ball on the move."

this was a huge problem in new orleans...almost all of his receptions came where he was standing still...still don't understand it.

i never understood that either...you guys imo too much tried to use him like any other rb out of the backfield...didn't fully take advantage of his strengths as a pass catcher...that little come out of the backfield and then sit down in the center of the field just in front of the lbs thing was just too vanilla for a reggie bush talent...kinda to me at times looked like you guys used bush like you'd use a pierre thomas or a ivory neither of which are remotely as talented as bush as a receiver...

just very vanilla...dime a dozen type stuff at times

not a Saints fan....Tampa's my team...I mainly follow all the USC players, and specifically the ones that were there while I was there...so I watched a lot of Saints games..and I thought I was living in the twilight zone when media people kept saying how brilliantly Sean Payton used him...I really hope you guys win the AFC East, and he produces..(maybe an all florida super bowl...a man can dream).

With Bush, we've made Henne's checkdowns dangerous. That's a good thing. I'm excited for Bush - he just needs to stay healthy and he'll be a huge contributor. The two biggest injuries that could derail the season for the offense are Long and Bush.

To be honest I don't recall but I do remember him coming around the edge and Henne stepping up in the pocket to avoid the sack.

what you have to worry about with henne to bush is henne leading him right into a 250 lb freight train lb with the throw...henne will get a guy decapitated not seeing the coverage player lurking in the flats

if bush has a chance to catch and put his foot in the ground...good luck is all i can say to any lb in space...better send the calvary
