It's great to see teams elevate their play to the next level during the playoffs. I could also clearly see the teams with tired legs.
Arizona looked slow compared to the fresh saints.
Dallas looked taxed and overwhelmed by Vikings D.
And Chargers looked like they didnt watch any game films on the Jets. Reminds me of the "stumblin fumblin..." Norv Turner days. That loss is wholly on the Charger coaching staff.
Jets came in and to their credit, knew who they are and played that way. Reminds me of Denny Green..." They are who we thought the were...and we left them off the hook. If you want to crown their *ss..."
Fins are just sooo far away. The D roster has to go through a pretty significant purge at LB, S, with glaring hole at NT. Not something accomplished next year, which makes it year 3 for this regime. Not looking good here. Add to that a change at DC...not good.
On offense, there is NO PLAYMAKER. None, nada, nobody. Again, not something that can be fixed next year...not to contend, perhaps win 2-3 more games but not playoff caliber type improvement.
Which goes to the bigger more important question. Next year makes year #3 for this regime. It will be the most telling year in this regimes "model for success".
I doubt it will be much different from this year. It's not like there are major pieces of the puzzle in place that can get this team over the hump.
Yes, we MIGHT have a QB. But too many questions at WR, TE, RB. Virtually 75% of the offense there.
On D, we do have two nice CB. But they will continue to need time. A couple nice DE, but glaring holes in the middle at NT, S, ILB.
None of these issues bode well for 2010 season. And I for one feel this is far below expectations for where this team ought to be by now in terms of talent.
A key WR acquisition will take a full season to gel. A new DC will probably mean some tweaks on the scheme, again, more adjustment by personnel.
This team actually is in need of 6-8 major player acquisitions.
Nowhere near being ready to contend.
Too bad. Another generation bites the dust.
