Please explain me, why are we already at cap-limit?

The point, which i don't understand: Why are we already at the cap-limit??? Except Long & Dansby & maybe 1-3 others we have no big names. But that is nothing comparing to other teams. How did the other teams do this? And what are we doing wrong? Please don't answer these question with: 'Cause we have a lousy Ireland'. I realy would like to hear some details, facts & explanations, where all the money is...

All of these(excluding maybe Bell, but at the time of his contract signing he was still in his prime) would be INSTANT starters and nearly EVERY NFL team. They are stars. They command a lot of money.

i disagree, maybe cause i have another explanation for 'stars'. We almost have no Top10-Ranking-Player on the certains positions. For example Davis. He is a good player, but is he Top10?

Understand this: The teams that are using creative cap space methods will be in a tight place in the ensuing years.

There is a lot of s nonsense on this site. Know for sure that it will be better for us in 2013 and beyond if we don't have to restructure contracts and sign certain guys to extensions that pay too much in the long run.

And another thing, Yeremiah Bell deserves his money. It isn't good practice to try to low ball the hardest worker on your team who is a strong prolific leader and an excellent example of how you want the whole heart and mentality of your team to be. That would be extremely stupid and self destructive. Hopefully, we lleave that kind of crap to the Cardinals and Bengals.

well you are right on a few things esp about bell.only thing you left out is this is a business and we have been a crapy one at that.its time to make some bold moves like we did with BM.time to take this business into a bright future.stop holding on to what could have been focus on what will be.if we stand pat and keep all our players at their current contracts we will loose out for sure.wrap up Long to a 5 year deal as well as dansbay tell bell to take a drop in pay or by by.we need to start a fresh way of doing business or we will continue to be bottom feeders

I like bell as much as the next guy... but does a guy who is only good at tackling, need $6 million dollars or close to it? Not in my book...

it's a business fellas, if peyton manning can get cut, than why in the **** can't yeremiah bell be cut??

I think part of the problem is paying guys like lydon murtha, and that alexis dude, $2million to ride pine...

sure dansby, and reggie have fat contracts, but at least in reggies case he proved to be worth the money. dansby is pretty quiet, I think a move outside we'll net us more bang for our buck there...

Here is the short answer...Artis Hicks @ $2M + Lydon Murtha @ $1.95M = a bit short of the average annual salary Eric Winston (one of the best RTs in the league) got from KC ($5.5M). Just poor management overall. Too many people in this organization that don't understand how to value players. We are not even paying a franchise QB or a big-time WR (after the Marshall trade) or a Ray Rice-Adrian Peterson-type RB or a Mario Williams, yet even with some cap carry-over from 2011 (for not spending to the limit), we still can't afford to make impact moves. It's pathetic.

How do the Lions put together a team that can afford a massive contract to Matt Stafford, Suh, Megatron, etc., have enough good players around them to make the playoffs, then still get Megatron signed to a monster contract under the cap? Because they finally have smart people running the team.

It is unconscionable that we point to players like Yeremiah Bell and Randy Starks as reasons that we are up against the cap. Neither of those guys is worth the salary they are making.

Because Ireland is such a genius. Three staright losing seasons and we are basically tapped out on cap not a good job
