to me, this is the most glaring weekness. true GUS is a backup at best. however look at KC's time of poss in the last game (appx 42 minutes). they owned the point of attack as their rb's avg'd >5 yd/carry and ours had a lot less carries.
I disagree, we may not be the Colts, but we have made a big jump in protection and run blocking over last year. I think a qiuick thinking fast responding QB would make a world of difference to this team and this is not a knock on Gus, he is what he is and has always been, a servicable QB thats all. He's not a starter. I don't blame him for this teams sturggles but he has made things tougher from time to time. He has also played very well, but Saban knew the %'s were against Gus being successful weak in and week out.
This team is where it should be given the circumstances, If this were Sabans fifth year we would reason for the harshness we seem to express at such a new coaching staff.
Think about this ok, the teams mentality is what I love most. Yes they have lost three in a row, but what we as fans don't see is the effect Saban and the other coaches are teaching after the loses. No more, well thats OK guys, there's always next week (Wanny). No, Saban helps them learn and forget learn your mistakes and forget the loss. I know Sabans style, and I know this is more important then the talent on the team. The teams mentality will win more games then strength, speed or luck.
To me the line is improving, however there is no dominant OL I see on the team. want an OGDEN TYPE badly.
It's eaiser to notice when the team is losing, fans tend to look for problems harder when the team loses, and are far more blind when they win. I don't think anyone here thinks the line is solid but at the same time they have a much better scheme now then they did last year, it shows IMO.
McIntosh/Mckinney have to go. they get know push and get schooled on pass plays.
I think Seth has had enough time to prove his worth and I really don't think he among a couple others are full time starters. I think we will have a couple of improvements next year on the O-line.
