Plenty of position battles to keep an eye on as minicamps progress

In his 1st two games, he was a monster.

Then he got injured, and for the rest of the season, he was mostly a slug.

I'm still hopeful that he can be a good RB.

I agree and he was monster before he got injured and he hits the open lane so quick...

Daniel Thomas showed me zero, zip, nada last year. I really hope that we can blame that on injuries, but to be perfectly honest, i question whether or not he'll have any type of an impact at this level. I've never seen a player with less of an instinct for the end zone inside the 5.

My guess is, Miller & Bush are used in similar roles with Miller taking on ST duties.

As of right now he is a busted pick. Hopefully he can rebound, but Im not taking the, "he had an injury" excuse. If he is on the field, he needs to produce, no questions.. As of right now he is a bust and he has a hard, uphill battle to climb.

dont see him making the 53 man.to much going on at the rb spot

I think he may have a decent shot, he's a big dude and I would have to guess Ireland didn't pluck him from the CFL just to be camp fodder. I was thinking maybe with his size they're planning on using him as a powerback with maybe some FB duties.

Jerome Messam is a Rb

He will make the 53 because he has huge upside

You think they will carry 4 backs? Bush, Thomas, and Miller are pretty much guaranteed to make the 53. There isn't really a FB on this roster and the FB played a lot in GB (Kuhn) so i thought maybe that was their plan with him. I have no idea what his lead blocking/receiving capabilities are, but he certainly has the size.

People talk about no offseason last year impacting players, but RB is the most plug-and-play position. I'll give Thomas another year before I make up my mind, because between the injuries and last year's O-line... Let's just say with the way the O-line is shaping up this year, no one in the backfield will get a pass for not showing up.

Can someone link me to highlights/lowlights on Messam?

There isn't a highlight video on the guy from what I seen, but here's a game where he had 2 tds and 140yds. Skip to 1:50 mark.
He runs a little too high, but that can be worked on. I do see us carrying any combo of 4 or maybe 5 backs with Messam being in that group.

RB is a very interesting topic the next 2 years.

We won't keep 4 RBs ... but could well keep 3 RBs & another on Special Teams.

Bush is the only lock to make the team ... and his contract expires this year, we'll have to re-sign him to a big contract next year (I'd say that depends on our young RBs)

Thomas is in a make or break year ... unless he can become solid on Special Teams.

Miller could well become the ST return man ... & work his way in the depth chart.

Messam is in the danger zone ... will need to be solid on ST & RB backup ... could even be replaced in Final Cuts.

no offseason isnt all about rookies learning the playbook...you wonder why there were so many pulled hamstrings last year?
