There is no doubt about this. It doesnt make sense that the first pick in the draft is going to get more more than Tom Brady...and that is a FACT.

Tom got 30 million. Jamarcus Russell got more and the dude doesn't even play.

This is why for all you Jake Long fans...you can get it out of your head! Never happen. The pick was NEVER going to be a running back - hasnt been one taken first in something like 30 years except once.....guess who????

Ki - Jana Carter that worked out well huh???

The first pick will be Matt Ryan and it will be traded....
If for some CRAZY reason somehow that doesn't work out then it will either be Ryan, Gholston, or Chris Long.

It was NEVER going to be a defensive tackle either. The money means it HAS to be an edge pass rusher or a QB (and you BETTER get the pick right)

Yeah the first pick nowadays is almost as much of a curse as it is a blessing.

For the record, the top paid players in the league are QB, DE, and LT....so taking Jake Long wouldn't be out of order if they thought he could be our left tackle for the next 10+ years.

I know alot of people think that Jake Long is only going to be a right tackle and blah blah blah but the experts are divided on this....mostly they say he's not at good as Joe Thomas but he's better than D'brickishaw Ferguson.

The one thing we do know for sure is that he will be the first offensive lineman drafted....which means that if we need offensive line help he's the best option.

I agree with the info about the LT being well paid thing. However, the pass rusher is going to make a little more. It's money that is still out of line for a LT draft pick. In addition to this....I've made a point before about that elite pass rusher being even harder to find than a left tackle. Their skills are simply more dependent on their measurables. Left Tackles can be taught. Bill has already shown with EVERY CLUB he has been to that he will use his highest pick on an edge rusher. (ill look into the Willie McGinnist, Bledsoe thing)....but he drafted John Abraham with the Jets, DeMarcus Ware with the Cowboys, and Willie McGinist with the Pats. plus he had Lawrence Taylor.....seriously the Jags are thinking about trading for Taylor cause they can't find somebody to get to the QB.

QB and Pass rusher are the only justified picks....

I disagree.

In Parcell's first draft with New England he took Drew Bledsoe #1 overall.

The other time he had #1 overall he traded back twice (to #8 ultimately) and then drafted a linebacker.

Sure, left tackles can be taught, but do you think you can teach one before our first game next season? In case you didn't notice there were no quality offensive tackles on the free agent market this year and we need two more lineman just to have a starting 5 (much less any depth)

It appears to me that the defensive front 7 has been addressed pretty thoroughly during free agency, our greater need is on the offensive line, and Chris Long and Jake Long have virtually identical draft grades.

I don't have an opinion on this really, we're going to get a great player regardless.....I'm just reading the tea leaves and looking at our roster, and unless we sign alot more guys or pull off a trade for a starting O-lineman, Jake Long makes more sense as the pick.

As for the money.....the money is out of line for ANY draft pick....including a QB.

I'll go a step further and say the money is out of line ESPECIALLY for a QB....because rookie QB's often don't start, and if they do start they don't perform very well because the learning curve is so high.

At least with an offensive lineman, defensive lineman, running back, or cornerback, you have a guy who can make an impact in his very first game.

How many of those you wrote that Parcells picked were the first picks in the draft? You don't take linebackers with the first pick.

you so sure about that??? I mentioned Bledsoe...and obviously quarterback is the first thing to be addressed... However, what I said was Parcells at some point at every stop, used his VERY FIRST pick overall on the best pass rusher available

1994 4 Willie McGinest LB Southern California
looks like he got old willie there #4 overall...Then next stop took John Abraham first...then took DeMarcus Ware first. just saying he likes to address that position early

Yeah I guess I tend to agree with you except for the fact that if the Qb pans out he will get similar money at some point anyhow.

How about we just take a stand this year and pass the pick? it just isn't right that a rookie that hasn't done ****, makes more money than perhaps the two top quarterbacks to ever play the game (not saying I agree with this - but it MAY be the way history remembers Manning, and Brady - cause they are both certainly on course)
