The original Brandon Marshall trade to the Dolphins was a mistake.
We're just making up for that. Perhaps if we had waited until after the draft we could have traded Marshall for more than two 3rd rounders. Of course we don't know if Marshall had requested a trade, and if he did, with every passing day there would have been the chance of a Marshall blowout. A Marshall blowout would have had big consequences on his trade value.
We got something in return for him, and honestly there were points last year I would have taken a 5th rounder to get him off the team. We're left a big gaping hole at #1, but Marshall was never going to be that #1 to get us over the hump and on to a dominate post season run. His baggage is too much, his inconsistency too larger, lack of greatness too glaring. Sure the Bears made out well, but they also have to deal with all the issues Denver and Miami did.
Let me put it this way...if Marshall's antics follow him to Chicago, Chicago is going to end up trading him for even less then what Denver and Miami did. Two teams have already given up the guy, even after Pro Bowl seasons.
