He will probably get that year but the Dolphins need to play well to keep his seat from getting any hotter.
The results of the poll so far kind of shock me. I would have thought at best it would have been reversed.
To be fair the OP wasn't exactly clear where the line was drawn. He did mention records in his first sentence but ended with this:
In fact the question of the poll is "Does JI deserve another year with good draft/ offseason?"
My question to the members is this, If Ireland pulls off a good to great draft, and combined with a great offseason, does he earn another year of employment if we happen to go 8-8, or 7-9 again?
I like what he has done in the off season and feel he will work with Philbin on picks this upcoming draft, but we have to draw the line somewhere.
If Jeff does his part, and we fail, I wonder if Philbin gets the blame thus giving Jeff more time in that corner office I'm curious to see if members think that if Jeff pulls out a nice draft, is he automatic for next year?
Is this thread real life?
Bro I've been away for a few weeks and I felt like I walked into the ****ing Twilight Zone when I stepped in here and saw the poll results.
Sure the OP worded everything kind of funky, but this is more of the same.
1. We Technically won't know how good of an "offseason / draft" we will of had until at minimum after the season.
2. Results are key here . . . if we are competitive, can muster up a winning record and be in the playoff picture all year, then yea no reason to change up a team on the upswing.
3. And this is very important . . . if this team gives us more of the same, this dude needs to LEAVE!! I don't care that the draft picks showed some promise or the Free Agents played well . . .whatever causes this team to not succeed this year falls squarely on Jeff Ireland. He has started this team, rebuilt it, and restarted it . . . . very few, get that chance . . . he deserves blame for everything. If Philbin sucks, I blame Ireland . . . if Mike Wallace gets hurt, I blame Ireland . . . . he's had 6 ****ing offseasons . . . there are ZERO excuses.
In the end, Ryan Tannehill's progression this season will probably be the single biggest thing determining the future of this staff and regime. I'm hopeful but I'd be lying if I said I'm 100% sure he's "the guy" that will reverse the poor QB play of the Dolphins the last 15 years.
i think it does earn him another year.
Hey I am with you on this one. I bicker with some of the other fans only because they want to pin point Ireland for everything that goes bad and shift the applause to someone else every time something goes good for the Phins. I am tired of hearing their excuses on why they do not like Ireland. At the same time Ireland has had enough leash and time away from Parcells and company to figure it out and get it going. I believe and hope he has. Honestly during preseason I thought Philbin and RT were looking like flops and was looking to lead the charge for Irelands head. Gotta wait for the end product at the end of this year before making that decision

Knew this was coming. A month ago, everyone on here was screaming "if we dont win he wont return!!!!". He signs a receiver and linebackers and everyone is beginning to get cold feet.
No, he has not earned another year. Going 7-9 or 8-8 is not good enough. I want 11 wins or a playoff berth. His free agency period has been good but not awe inspiring(cutting Dansby and Burnett over Misi? Come on...) like many of the usual suspect claim. He basically filled the holes he created and signed players at positions hes already addressed in years past. This offseason was eerily similar to '10 and somewhat like '11.
Next offseason, like the OP suggested, expect many of the usual suspects to begin a "It wasnt Irelands fault" campaign. We had a hard schedule! Look at the potential of our draft picks! He did everything right at the time! It was Philbins fault! They will try and convince everyone that Ireland is completely powerless and merely watched this team struggle. People need to ignore it and recall threads like this. Like every job in the world, you either start getting positive results or you are fired. That finally needs to apply to Jeff Ireland.
And no, before people start up with it: losing Ireland wont cost us Philbin. General managers are hired after coaches are already established all the time. Ross handpicked Philbin, hes not going to let him go after 2 years. Just like Parcells didnt let his handpicked general manager go after 2 years.
Jeff Ireland deserves every ounce of criticism that he gets, instead people want to exclude him from bad decisions and give him credit for what little positive there was.
1. "Jeff Ireland has done a masterful job of getting us in the position that we are in this year in regards to the cap / draft". Sure . . . when you trade first rounders for 2nd rounders and give up 2 2nds for 2 thirds and miss on the amount of free agents that he has missed on and get strapped with cap hits until they are off the books it may look like there is a breath of fresh air there . . . but most GMs don't get the chance he is getting because they have been dismissed by the time the cap turns positive.
2. All speculation, but at times, it has been reported that the owner has stepped in and overruled Ireland for the better of the team (No Orton / Philbin over McCoy)
3. Any GM that leaves their rookie QB out to dry with no weapons like Ireland did last season is just too ****ing comfortable with his job . . . and Ireland has no business being that comfortable. He needs to be put under pressure, instead people see Mike Pouncey and Reshad Jones and think he is some mastermind GM or something . . . please.
4. I wish him the best . . . this isn't a right or wrong thing here . . . we all want the Fins to win and for this season that means hoping Jeff Ireland hits the nail on the head with his decisions. Just because confidence is broken in his abilities doesn't mean people who aren't confident wouldn't love to eat crow in regards to him. It's the people that are comfortable with him that I worry about . . . he hasn't done anything to deserve any comfort or sympathy from anybody.
