There's a poll on the Dolphins website next to the article about Dolphin Denny - don't know how long it will be up. It asks who was the greatest Dolphin center of all-time and as of this a.m. with 2500+ votes:

Tom Goode - 1%
Jim Langer - 10%
Tim Ruddy - 33%
Dwight Stephenson - 54%

One can understand Stephenson being first, he was one of the best of all-time.

But, how on earth does Tim Ruddy get 33% to HALL-OF-FAME center Jim Langer? Ruddy was about as mediocre as it gets - rarely dominated any lineman, while Langer anchored one of the great O-lines in NFL history.

I know the answer - there's a lot of younger generation voters who just have no clue about Dolphin history - or the NFL. But, how myopic is that? It is certainly a testament to the fallibility of the modern day polls on who is the best at some position.

I'm waiting for the poll in which Jay Fiedler gets more votes than Bob Griese ...

Well, yeah; you hit the nail on the head. The voters were obviously a bunch of kids who remember that Ruddy was the center the one year that RW ran for that 1800+ yards. But most likely had no clue that Langer was center when we went to 3 consecutive SBs.

The old timers always suffer in these public polls. The fan base has become younger and they are generally familiar with players of the modern era not of the glory years.

I remember a poll when they completely left out Paul Warfield in a list of greatest Dolphin wide receivers.

I'm 31, and I can't say that I remember Langer's playing days, but I knew his name, and I made an effort to do a little research on his career. I remember EVERYTHING about Tim Ruddy. His best years and his worst. I can't understand how anyone would vote Ruddy over Langer. Stephenson has always been the greatest. Langer is definitely second. I'm not even sure Ruddy belongs on this poll.

Probably just a bunch of kids voted. I remember Ruddy to be a good center was good for us, but as far as being half of what Langer was. I dont think so

Just goes to show you the amount of history and knowledge the sole called "fans" of the younger generations actually know about their team. Pitiful
