After stomaching through the Dave Wannstedt and Nick Saban years; Sparano's a breath of fresh air..
After this and dealing with one miserable, nightmarish, hellacious year with Cam Cameron as coach, which at the time I swore set back the organization five years, Tony Sparano has been a ****ing Godsend..
Mind you, me thinking (at the time) Cameron's one year set the organization back five is saying a fair amount how pathetic things really were, because lets face it-- Wannstedt didn't exactly do this team any favors, nor did Saban, who acted like he was too smart for his own good.
Anyhow, I digress.. Tony Sparano inherited a 1-15 team that looked as bad of a team as you could find. In ONE SEASON, he led them to an AFC East title. In his first two, he led them to 18 wins.
Was some of this due to good personnel decisions that went right, smooth drafting and lucky bounces? Absolutely.. However, no matter how good drafts are, free agent signings are and how many breaks you get, if improperly coached, nothing makes a difference.
2009 was definitely a dissappointment. The team was ravaged by injuries to key players, and was extremely young in several key positions, and old in others.
I'm not going to completely give Tony a free ride here, he's made some questionable decisions as a head coach, or he's authorized his staff to make some questionable ones. I think they relied a little TOO heavily on the Wildcat at times, and others not enough. He's also made some decisions that left me wondering what the hell he was thinking.
That said, the guy's won 18 games in two years.. I'd say that he's done pretty damned good all facts considering. I think the guy's a good coach, who is only going to get better with time.
