Pop the champagne!

I don't understand the hate on this subject (especially from our own fans). History is one of the great reasons to be a Dolphin fan. We are blessed and very rich in it. So, enjoy it, I always do, especially when the last unbeaten falls.

Im so tired of that being the only thing to celebrate each year. If not for a a very lucky and good play by the Giants we would not even have that anymore
Don't want to derail this thread but I saw a SB in 2007 where the Giants beat the Pats ass and should have won by more if not for self inflicted wounds while in scoring position a couple times. I believe NE crossed mid field 2x the whole game. That play was nuts but it didn't define the game. The '72 fins destroyed Washington in the SB even if the score was only 14-7. Different times.

Just so everybody knows, the whole "popping champagne" thing is an urban legend. Here is a link

It's great for the members of that team and the fans that cheered them on back then, but for fans such as myself that weren't even a speck of DNA in their father's sperm it's getting a bit tired to celebrate this feat. I have no connection to it, and all it serves to do is remind me how pathetic this team has been during my lifetime. The Dolphins haven't even been to a Superbowl since I was in diapers...

It's ok none of we're around in 1776 but we still celebrate the 4th of July and none of us were around for the birth if Jesus but people still celebrate Christmas. When the last team falls we raise a glass to the greatest achievement in the history of sports. The is what we do we are dolphin fans and we will still be doing it 200 years from now

We are still celebrating something (more than our current teams) that happened the same month as the following:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/January_1973

* CBS sells the New York Yankees for $10 million to a 12-person syndicate led by George Steinbrenner (3.2 million dollars more than CBS bought the Yankees for).

* Elvis Presley's concert in Hawaii. The first worldwide telecast by an entertainer watched by more people than watched the Apollo moon landings.

* U.S. President Richard Nixon is inaugurated for his second term.[1]

* Roe v. Wade: The U.S. Supreme Court overturns state bans on abortion.

* George Foreman defeats Joe Frazier to win the heavyweight world boxing championship.

* U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War ends with the signing of the Paris Peace Accords.[1]

And this was the number 1 song in the country:

Ummm yeah. Those other things have been repeated. New No. 1 songs. New ownership of sports teams. Each bigger than the previous.

NOBODY has ended the season undefeated champions of the NFL. And because of the silly rotational rule they had in place then our playoff run meant the Undefeated Dolphins had to beat the Steelers in Pittsburgh. Yeah ... and they did win that game ... and e wry other game ... and the Super Bowl (don't cry Tom Brady, have a cookie).

Undefeated is THAT big of a deal. Every record Brady sets will be broken. But Undefeated may be immortal ... and it will be standing and remembered far longer than Tom Brady.

The players on the 72 team may be dead and gone before we see another undefeated team in the NFL. Free agency has changed the picture and created a level of parity that didn't exist in 72.

Quite different games . Both teams played very good defense that game but yes that was the defining play because if Manning is sacked or Tyree doesn't make that catch the game is over and Pats win.
Im not sure how your recollection was that they dominated the Pats in that game. It was a farly even game throughout. Without that play the Pats are undefeated that year. Great play much like the year we lost to Oakland the year after the undefeated season.
We dominated the redskins all game there is no comparing that game to a ver even game like 2007. 2007 was a very good defensive superbowl all the way around

Well, aren't you smug?

I'd rather celebrate winning the lottery, but I would also celebrate finding $100 on the sidewalk too.

Some of you need to pull the stick out of your pooper and enjoy it for what it is.

It's true. I'm smug b/c I want my favorite football team to win games. You know, the goal is to win games and that's why they get paid to play a game.

Hell no , 30 years from now the only thing I want to be able to cling to is life and the last moment of dolphin glory the undefeated team lol. I mean damn its only been 40 years since we won a superbowl lol

Actually it was Karma saying "**** you for running up scores all season long after the outcome was decided because you were pissed off about the league having the audacity to call out and penalize your chronic cheating." It only looked like luck because losing in the most heart-breaking fashion was preordained!

Well luck plays a part in a lot of things. One more bad play in superbowl against redskins and who knows even though we did dominate them

As well we freaking should.

You know why?

Because in all the time since that's happened...all the things that have occurred...the dynasties, the rule changes, the presidential terms...?

Nobody

Else

Has

EVER

Done

It.

I have to hear this crap from non-Dolphin fans.

I don't need to hear it here.

Shaddap and drink your champagne.

I've never even seen them play in the Super Bowl. I'm 33. What the hell is going on in my mind with this mediocre ****?
