Vikings signed LB Derrick Pope, formerly of the Dolphins.

Pope was mostly a special teamer in Miami, but also has experience starting on the weak side. He'll likely enter camp as a fifth or sixth linebacker.

Good for him. I think he'll thrive in a Cover 2. I always liked Derek. Wish him the best.

Wouldnt say necessarily 'bad' for us. He is the opposite of what this scheme looks for in a LB (in terms of size). But he was real good on ST and a solid filler.

PS Go Habs Go! ;)

He was good on special teams.... but when you say special teams, I miss David Bowens alot more. I'll miss D. Pope as much as I miss Aubrey Beavers...which isn't much.
I'm still coping with no Zach Thomas, and its gonna ne a huge shock come the start of next season, seeing him make plays for the Cowboys.
I do wish D. Pope the best, I hope he has a great season up in Minnesota

Good for him and the Vikes. He will be going to a Defense that will make his effectiveness
better. I wish him well.

No comparison between Pope and Beavers. I can't even believe you put them in the same sentence.
Beavers had prototypical size and great speed, but was clueless above the shoulders.
Pope was a lot like ZT. A bit undersized, but a tough productive player who some would classify as an overachiever. He was a very good LB at Alabama and could probably start for many of the 4-3 defenses in the NFL.

Very True although Im not a big fan of this prototype size over actual results and talent, in the end the size seems to yield the least of results.

hes ok. actually sucked. good luck in the future hope u get better

Now see, I wouldn't put Pope and Zach Thomas in the same sentence....there was a huge difference in how well each played and how instinctive each were. I'm just saying that Pope will be remembered as much as Beavers or Scott Galyon as the years go by. Pope played well enough, but very stiff/tight in his hips

he was a nice back up to have but never more than that....as far as ST's...he wasn't bad but that was a bad unit last year and I think Bill and Jeff have done a great job of getting some players that will make that unit a very good one this coming season.

Ozzy rules!!
