Last year we had the chance to sign LaVar Arrington, but choose not to. This year we signed Joey Porter.

I'am personally glad we didn't sign LA last year, but glad as heck for JP. Does anyone feel the same way? If LA was on the roster, I really doubt that JP would be a fin right now.

I'll feel the same way IF he doesn't go out and get hurt and miss much of the season like Arrington did...

Besides, Porter is younger and actually fits a little better than Arrington...

I've always been a fan of Joey Porter and have always wanted him to be in aqua and orange. The people out here (Colorado) are very proud of this guy, he's one of only a handful of Colorado States players to actually do anything in the NFL. BTW, we did have a CSU's QB in camp last year.

No question, Porter > Arrington ....

IF Arrington ever lived up to his 'potential' and stayed healthy, it would be the other way around .... but he just hasn't

Exactly. If Arrington had ever lived up to his billing that he had coming out of Penn State, I'd be dissapointed that we missed out on him last year. However, he seems to be an overpaid walking injury. I like the fire the Porter brings to the field, and getting the chance to play next to Zach and across from JT, well, what's not to like about that?

I honestly can't see why anyone is upset with the Porter signing. This years group of FA were not very attractive in terms of what teams are getting for the money. With the salary cap you just can't address all areas via FA due to asking prices these players are getting. I love how Miami is stock piling picks to build through the draft.

Saban always talked this up but never followed his plan. Giving a 2nd round pick for Pepp was a huge mistake. Brees was who he wanted and he panic and gambled and lost. I really like Miami having 2 second round picks and feel that oline will get addressed in the draft. Picking up Porter makes our defense better than last year plus we can gets some yonger guys the experience needed on DL and can still pick up someone in the draft.

Arrington is surviving on hype and really has been an over rated player throughout his entire NFL carrer. Actually that it was one of Sabans best moves to pass on him. Really wanted Peterson at LB last year and was more disappointed Miami missed out on him.

Any idea on the cap hit between the two guys?

Porter vs. Peterson

even if Arrington lived up to his hype, Porter is still a better fit and he we will get way more production out of Porter in the pass rush and in coverage as well.
