I do not dislike Porter. He is good at rushing the passer, nothing else.

He is terrible against the run, and as bad against the pass. For the 17 sacks we got, how many other plays did he give up?

Opinions?

He's out there to get to the passer. Teams pass on downs other than obvious passing downs. While making him a specialist at some point might extend his career, he needs to be an every down player with what he brings to the table in terms of pass rush.

He has weaknesses, for sure. So does Crowder, AA, and Roth. At some point you have to have stability at the positions to build a defense.

How many sack machine really are very good at dropping into coverage or stopping the run??

Not that many would be my guess.

Not many at all. The first person that popped into my head was Charles Hailey. State of the art pass rusher. Not much else...But that's not a bad thing. Not every OLB can be James Harrison.

Haley was a great example. I believe Porter and JT are now in that same class.

As this is a Phins forum, JT may be one. Some have actually said that Porter was better last season than what JT did in the last couple of years as a Dolphin. I laughed.

He's a pass RUSHER!!! Not a run stuffer, thats for the big boys inside and the D End's. His job is to rush the passer and last year he did it quite well.

JT should see the field before Porter IMO. Porter should be the passing-downs-only player and JT should be the every-down player. I believe JT is better against the run than Porter.

I agree he is weak against the run .................but with that been said i wish he had another 17.5 sack season. We even won a couple of games because of him at the very end of the game last year. I will take that any day.

dont think so

Taylor passed on his opportunity to be the leader of this team. Porter did one hell of a job being this teams leader, and he embraced it. Jt has to watch Porter be the leader now, it was his choice! Plus Jt has to prove he can be an every play guy, he didnt show he could be last year, Porter did.

If Porter was on special teams he'd probably get injured.

we should have said that is what weak side linebackers in the 34 defense are primarily used for.
