DAVIE - Even now, after 10 seasons in the NFL and four Pro Bowl selections, Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter can hear the footsteps.

The trick, he says, is never letting the challengers catch you from behind.

"Each year, I've had second-round draft picks come in behind me and guys have been drafted behind me over and over," says Porter. "That's football. If you play in this league long enough, they're going to try and replace you. You have to just know that."

Nobody is exempt. Father time always arrives in due time. However there are athletes who give their whole lives to this game. The keep in shape and watch what they eat al least for their entire careers. I know, the mayority of them do. By keeping such healthy lifestyles their body ages different than a regular person.

Meaning someone younger that joey porter is going to look and feel older than him.
JMHO.

One thing Porter has on his side is that throughtout his career, he has never suffered any long term or serious injuries, meaning he does'nt have any nagging or persistent injuries that can slow down or shorter a players career's.

He should be fresh, he didn't make a play the last 5 games.

Zing! (Well, except that game winning sack against San Fran).

But him making more plays down the stretch (last season, possibly this season), is all dependent on the rest of the defense helping him out with QB pressure.

Porter will be even better this year. JT is back. They will both break havoc in the backfield. Its not that hard to gameplan for 1 player. It gets more difficult when you have to worry about 2 players of the same caliber.

Porter is getting old(apb for Porter the last 4 games of the season) and JT is a dinosaur in football years. So to come out and say they will be better I have a hard time with that.

and reading that Porter wants to play another 5 years...God let it be Washington that pays that contract...please
