If we someone get into a position where we have 2 first round picks that arent early on (trade down, players, etc) do you guys think Pozluszny would be a good pick? A lot of people here are saying how Thomas isnt doing as good as he usually is, and he wont be any younger next year. So...thoughts?

I love the guy, but he shouldn't go before number 8 for sure. CK thinks a team like the Patriots will get a steal by having him fall into thier laps. He thinks there's a chance that if we pick high enough in round 2, we might just be able to get him as a steal too.

If we did somehow get a 1st rounder from 16 on back, I'd have to think he'd be in strong consideration for being drafted.

This kind of belongs in the draft forum.

I dont think Paul Posluszny would be a good fit in Miami. They have fairly strict archtypes for the LB positions in their defense, and I dont think he really fits any of them.

Zach Thomas is small, but he's been grandfathered in despite having some weaknesses in the system, and he's an extraordinary player on a level that Posluszny is unlikely to ever match.

Drafting a player like Posluszny would also result in Channing Crowder continuing to play out of his ideal position long term.

I've watched just about every game Poz has played over the last couple of yrs and the guy is an animal. He may lack some size I guess, but more importantly he's a good leader, great character guy, and makes tons of tackles. Kind of reminds me of Zach actually. I'd love to have Poz b/c we def need a LB early in this draft. Wonder where he will end up falling in the draft.

I think that that would be the most foolish thing that could be done. Why?

Because you don't use your 1st round pick on a position that is well stocked via free agency. You use it on the BPA regarding what the market is scarce on.

isnt he injured??? i love him but i wouldnt draft some one like him unless he drops...from the first round

Nope, although he wears a brace, from what I know he is recovered almost completely from his injury at the orange bowl.

I think we'd know if we had that position filled(or on the way to be filled) prior to the draft though. That would certainly affect our decision. Right now we do need a OLB, so until we get it filled, we can discuss all we want.

His knee is fine, didn't require surgery as far as I can remember. I would love to have him with the Dolphins! Reads and anticipates plays extremely well.... I think he needs about 18 tackles to be the all time leader in tackles at Penn Sate! Strong character guy even says "coach may I please ask you a question?" before even asking it when he first got to Penn State. Strong academic guy too

But doesn't he play ILB? Maybe I'm confused, but isn't Crowder is the heir appearent to Zach? Though he may be a great player, I would think we have a lot of holes to fill and having him may be a luxury we cannot afford. IMO, it's like drafting another RB with our 1st pick. It would be great to have another stud, but we have too many other needs.

Well it all depends on what we are trying to do. if we are indeed going to play more 3-4 next year i don't know if Poz would fit the inside playing thumper or the plug position at a pro level, seems more like an inside in the 4-3. I think Penn State plays a 3-4 now but i don't know if he could do it in the NFL.

If we could get Paul Posluszny with a late first (via trade down or whatever) or early 2nd, I think i would pee my pants with happiness. That would be an absolute freakin STEAL!!! I don't give a crap how big he is, he is awesome and by far the best LB PSU has ever had IMO.

He's playing Middle linebacker this season, but it's kind of like a 3-4 defense, as Tim Shaw(an OLB last year) is lining up as a stand up end. So he isn't a true Mike linebacker IMO. He played last year at OLB and was the Bednardik winner, even over Hawk. He was slow to get started this year, because of his new position, but penn. state alumni all seem to think he's the best LB they've ever had. And I think he would play OLB(not sure, he might be like Crowder and capable of playing all 3 spots). I agree that, if we were to draft him as a MLB, it wouldn't make much sense, unless we converted more to a true 3-4(and no longer had Zach), where Crowder and Poz(so essientally Paul would be playing the same position he is right now) started in the middle.

Same here. If he falls that far in the first, I pray he falls to our 2nd round pick, or somehow we trade up to get him.

He's a great player but a poor fit for us IMO, we need a strongside linebacker and he simply doesn't have the frame to do what Nick Saban wants from that position which is why Adalius Thomas will be a key free agent target
