Possible comparison for Devon Achane = Warrick Dunn

All these small comparisons are going to be put to rest once achane shows up closer to 200 lbs the start of the season. I think he's an every down back and he proved it many times in college

Hmmm........

Many times might be a stretch. Here are his collegiate game logs if ppl are interested in more than rhetoric narratives.

He had a nice career, but let's not act like he carried his team, game in-game out, for multiple years.

Don't get me wrong, I like the pick and think he will be fine.

I'm hoping Achane could become a mini-version of Reggie Bush. Bush was about 2 inches taller and 10 pounds heavier, but Achane has a similar style of play.

I think he would be great if used like Tony Dorsett was in Dallas. Dorsett averaged 16 carries a game. He was frustrated early on but later in his career he thanked Tom Landry who said from the get go his plan was to limit his carries and extend his career. Dorsett played for 11 seasons and had almost 3,000 carries for almost 13,000 yards.

That's not happening in today's game, but the idea is there. Achane is capable of running inside, and he is a MUCH tougher runner than people understand, but he should be used in tandem with multiple backs, and in receiving roles too, which is what Miami is built for now. A good fit.

By the way, I think he is a Thurman Thomas type guy. And that's a GREAT thing. Thomas had 12,000 plus rushing and 4,000 plus receiving. Again, not saying those numbers will be there- just what type of player he is.

I have no idea if Achane is another Dunn or not. Yet I do think that drafting Dunn made the need to sign a RB like Cook far less a need. I think without Achane, they might have felt that it was necessary to overpay Cook.

With Achane on the roster, along with Mostert and Wilson, I really don’t see the need to get into a bidding war for Cook or any other free agent RB. Personally I am extremely happy with the RB room right now and I wouldn’t offer Cook a dollar more than they have already offered him.

I like your enthusiasm but I have to be honest.

When ppl use first ballot, HOF players as examples or comps to guys that haven't even taken their first pro snap, It comes off as rah rah, he on our team so he's gonna be awesome hyperbole to me.

I don't have a problem if ppl do it, but I can't take it all that seriously.

Oh please give me Warrick Dunn all day, and I am a happy man.

We will see soon enough if he's as good, isn't as good, or dare I say, an even better version. šŸ˜‰

Physical and skill set comp might be Matt Breida. Both backs in the 5'9 190 range with elite speed and quickness. Breida had his moment's in the McDaniel offense. I think Achane will be a better player than Breida, but it's a fair comp.

Also more then fine with another version of Breida, and would be just as happy.

My brothers are Bucs fan and one had a poster of Warrick Dunn on his wall carrying the ball that said, "It's a Dunn deal." lol so cheesy. They loved him when he played.

Then he can change his name to Ricky Williams 2nd before we burn him out!

So this got me thinking, if Ricky ever got to 40 carries in a game in college. I assumed he probably had given his status as the top rusher in college football history when he finished up at Texas. The stats are jaw dropping as I look at them.

His senior year in 1998, he had 361 carries in 11 games for 2124 yards and 27 TD's. I can't find an individual game log with a breakdown but that works out to be 32.8 carries a game, so you'd assume he probably eclipsed 40 at least once in that year to pull that kind of average. He had 279 carries his junior year so I'd say its a lot less likely he got to 40 if it wasn't in that senior year.

And to think, he played for FREE. I am sure he got something, from someone but that wouldn't make up for the 10's of Millions he generated for Texas and the NCAA.

Ricky would have been a long day for the defense in the today's NFL.
