I read the Massaqoui thread and have a couple of the final spots observations.

First Massaqoui fills 2 roles for the short term (until Berger is healthy), as a FB/HB and 3rd TE to get you through a game allowing for another OL to be carried. Since Berger is injured we needed another inside backup. Also the cap # is significantly lower carrying Massaqoui as opposed to Beasley. If you carry Beasley and Barnes then you still have to have another inside (center)backup. Radar did not have HB/FB ability. Second IMHO Smith was kept because of his ability to play center. With Berger (a G/C) down we HAD to have a backup C and carried Smith who is not really a Houck type lineman. IMO we MAY see one of the OL (Jacox or Smith) go when Berger gets healthy and Pape (or another young T/G swing guy)who played pretty well and was really the bubble guy on the OL brought back. Pape is a T/G swing guy that is more Houck'ish. I do not see Jacox on the roster at the end of the year...IMO only....

Vickerson and Evans showed too much potential to not carry the extra DL. IMO there may still be something going on with Zgonina. Another 2-3 weeks to see if Evans/Vickerson really is a rotational player and we MAY see someone like Gibson/Vick brought back as a rostered player.

One interesting guy is Orrin Thompson who for the 2nd year is a PS guy. Obviously they see something in this guy even though he did not play much in the Pre season even. He was a Duke DL converted to OT and will have had 2 "redshirt years" next year.

With Thompson, Berger, Toledo, Alabi, Rod Wright, Manny Wright, Vickerson, Roth, Evans, Ricky, Kyle Eckel, Gibson, Vick, Hagan, stashed on many lists...next years camp is going to even more competitive than this one. IMHO a GREAT job blending youth and vets together by the Nicktator.

Wow, brother. Excellent analysis in my opinion.
You should consider joining the VIP lounge. Your analysis would fit in nicely with those brothers and sisters in that forum.

Your two cents are worth atleast a nickel for your analysis. What some seem to have forgotten is that Saban likes versatile players. He drafted players like Ronnie Brown and Jason Allen because of their versatility and adding a player like Massaqoui only adds to the options he can use come game day.

Right on. Fans tend to seriously underestimate how hard it is to put together a 53-man roster that gives you good players now, protects you against a wide range of injuries, sets you up for the future and keeps you within the cap.
