I dont like the sounds of it either but hear me out. If the owners opt out of the CBA and the players strike, when they start bargain one of the big things for owners will definately be salaries of rookies. If its a quick strike and they can patch it up quickly and they make some kind of rookie pay scale that would be great. Look at basketball. Rookies make what they make and thats what they make!!!! Owners hate the way it is now and that is one think they will want to change. The Players Union may go for it cuz it will mean more money for veterans.

I thought something similar to this was supposed to start in 2007. Oh well.

I always thought the NFL should have a rookie pay-scale similar to the NBA. It would eliminate long hold-outs. It also is amazing that the 1st overall pick becomes one of the highest paid players at that position almost instantly. The Vets are the ones that deserve the money; not spoiled 22 year olds that haven't played a lick of foorball in the NFL. That being said, the players union has always been hard to work with in the past, but with Goodells no-nonsence attitude he could get what he wants.

A strike will benefit no-one. In fact it'll hurt the league in general.

This is true. In the long run, however, something will need to be worked out regarding rookie salaries and their impact. A first round draft choice can impact his team far more negatively for no good reason with no recourse under the current rules.

NO, NO, NO, NO, NO

A strike may benefit some, but a strike never benefits the fans. Chance are a strike would lead to a shortened season, no draft, no schedule release show, no preview magazines, no free agency.Basically you are advocating risking loosing all these things for a rookie pay scale. Sorry, but the scales just are not at equilibrium for me on that one.

Also, is there a story about a possible strike, b/c I would surely like to read it. Not doubting you in any way, but if this is pure spec I would like to tell my nerves as such. If it is not, then it is as stupid a move I have seen in years. We avoided a strike last year (or two years, I can't really remember), so why not wait and collectively bargain this into a new CBA for crying out loud.

It is completely rediculous how it is now... I dont care who the rookie is, he does not deserve these contracts that they get. He could be a QB who shattered every single NCAA passing record that exists and rushed for 100 yards and multiple TD every game for his entire collegiate career and he still isnt worth a 30 million dollar signing bonus... Its ridiculous. A rookie SHOULD NOT be making more than a vet... ****, would I be making more than the CFO, right, I wish.. Aint gonna happen

Thank you! Who in the world would want a football strike!!!!!!

nobody would want one. but if rookie salaries were fixed it would benefit the league as a whole. If it happens it happens. If its short and lasts like week then who cares anyway.(i know this is wishfull thinking and a strike would pry get dragged out.) All im saying if Owners opt out of the CBA you know thats one thing they are gonna wanna fix and us having the first pick is a perfect time to do it.

There is no perfect time for a football strike.

They need to work it out way before that happens.

Reported on sports center that if the owners opt out the players will strike

They need a payscale because under the current system the vetrans that have put their time in and beat the hell out of their bodies get screwed. The only players making money are the Rookies that get the big signing bonus and haven't proven a thing. It is very wrong what the NFL does to it's vetrans. It sets teams up to fail because it they draft who they think will help them win, than you get a hold out for a loto more cash to sign this guy. If he flops than the team is screwed because they still have to count his salary into the next seasons cap space. Very wrong. The NBA is the way to go, they seem to have it right.

I agree with you there. A structured rookie salary should be in place. Friggin' kids holding out for millions on their potential?

With the amount of money at stake, as far as lost revenues no one will want one. Chances are we will see what happened before, protracted hearings,.....a delay of FA and probably more percentage of overall league revenue going to the players as compensation.

A strike won't help anyone...especially the fans. :shakeno:
